Geoff Capes, who competed for Great Britain in the shot put at three Olympic Games, won two Commonwealth titles and twice won the World's Strongest Man competition, has died aged 75. A family statement said: “The family of Geoffrey Capes would like to announce his sad passing today, 23rd October.

I met him at the Earl of Doncaster. Lovely bloke, an absolute gentle giant.

Way back when I was 14 or 15 years old I was Yorkshire Champion Budgie Breeder, I spoke to Geoff at. Show at the Racecourse, he encouraged me to stick at it, but I never listened, discovered Women and Beer and gave up the hobby. RIP Geoff

My Dad was on a train home up from London. When it stopped at Peterborough, Geoff Capes got in the same carriage. That end of the carriage dipped Dad said...
