As much as I love watching young players come through the youth team and want to see them do well, I can't help but think Bobby Faulkner's time is coming to an end with us.

Same with Louis Jones, they're both so far down the pecking order and the fact they're from Doncaster shouldn't influence them being kept on.

I said in another post that I think Louis may well become ‘another Marco Marosi’ in as much as he’s had numerous of games for Rovers (under numerous managers!) in fact Wellens said to him “Why haven’t you chosen the ‘vacant No1’ jersey. I want you to believe in your ability & claim that No1 spot between the posts”.

Unfortunately Louis (although a good shot stopper with good reflexes) lacked the confidence to dominate the six yard area at corners & his distribution was poor. He did have his chances here.

Bobby has not had a long run in the team in fact his only run of games when we were stricken by injuries, came when he was just 17 years of age! As again I’ve said before about him, he turned 20 in August & has come back from a loan that in hindsight I don’t think the Rovers management would have sent him to. When you say he’s well down the pecking order German, if we get promoted this season do you think further contracts will be offered to Anderson & Wood?

If not, which in all likelihood I think they’re very doubtful to be offered (in my opinion), where would that leave Bobby in the pecking order behind Olowu & McGrath?

I think, having seen him play, that he deserves persevering with. I think Bobby Faulkner will play at a higher level than Lg2 (again, in my opinion) & I hope that’s with his hometown club, Rovers.

It’s hardly a high risk ‘gamble’ financially.

Marko Marosi has gone on to have a very good football league career since leaving Rovers and must have made 150 odd League One (& even Championship) appearances. When Jones leaves Rovers I can’t see him getting another football league club.

If we do get promoted (sorry, when!) we’re not just going to go into the season with Olowu & McGrath as options. We’d buy players to replace Wood & Anderson. I’d love to see Faulkner succeed here but it just seems like McCann really doesn’t rate him. Whether that’s a mistake or not will only become clear in time.

Not sure Bobby will have much of a role this season, however next year, when I believe both Anderson and Wood are out of contract, he might have a chance to prove himself again. That's if McCann sees a future for him here.

All CB’s bar McGrath are out of contract at end of the season, very interesting to see how we manage the situation, whether Olowu & Anderson get extended during the season or not, I suspect Wood is probably done, but I said same thing last season

Made all the more complicated by the potential to be in League One next season. Of that large group of McGrath, Olowu, Anderson, Wood and Faulkner, which would you have down as being prepared for that higher level? Also the young lad Williams is I think a centre back? McCann clearly rates him.

I would think only McGrath and Olowu would stay, the others would be upgraded/replaced.

My thinking on Jones is he would possibly be a decent 2nd keeper for us to keep, it doesn’t look like he will ever be the number 1 choice, but you never know, he is very young still for a keeper. The actual number 1 spot needs sorting I don’t like that we rely on loans for it, but can see it allows us some serious talent at potentially a lower price.
With Bobby, I do hope it works out - very similar traits to Jay, and another home grown player, having seen so little of him I can’t really have an opinion, I do trust Grant though and he will do what he feels is best for DRFC

You want your number two to be pushing your number one, Jones isn’t going to do that.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Jones and Lawlor go in Jan and another come in to push Teddy.

I would imagine Grant will be trying to tie down Olowu, especially after his showing of late, albeit with another super talented young CB at the side of him.

I think mcann sees kasper williams more up the pecking order than bobby. Mcann has spoke highly of kasper this season and not ao much of bobby.
But time will tell

Time to let Jones go. Bobby needs games. Find him a decent club in the Conf North for the second half of the season.

Think how the defence confidence disappeared at Gillingham away end of last season proved Jones isn’t worth having as a backup. As for Bobby, no one could live up to the player Selby has built him up to be. He is serviceable though and worth persevering with
