That's a tough line.  There will be lots of folk looking over their shoulder..... especially if they are doing porridge for this...

I like this line from the PL:

"The selling of broadcast rights supports the Premier League’s industry-leading financial contribution to the whole football pyramid..."

What a splendid bunch they must be...

It's almost like football wouldn't exist without the Premier League!!! We have news for them, it's the other way round and the TV money is generated because our great football history is built on the whole pyramid and the Premier League would be jack sh*t without it.

The recent FA Cup first round showed football is alive and kicking in it's grass roots.

Sometimes, sometimes, I'm tempted to hope the whole chuffing lot of 'em piss off and join some artificial Euro league. Then they can follow the path set by Rollerball 50 odd years ago.

Not really a shocking sentence considering he was given many warnings to cease doing what he was doing!

Yes it is a shocking sentence given:

"Disgraced BBC News presenter Huw Edwards has been given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after he admitted charges of making indecent images of children."

6month suspended for being a peado.

2yrs 3m for watching some tele without paying?

This world is absolutely broken

I received a phone call from a Sky rep that was offering a broadband deal to me, I told her that I’ve no intention of giving a penny towards the Murdoch empire, she didn’t know who the Murdochs were.

I'm not surprised she didn't know, Jimmy. The Murdochs have had nothing to do with Sky for many years.

I didn’t know that.
But I still don’t want to contribute to Sky because they have spoiled my enthusiasm for the premier league.

And continued to get paid hundreds of thousands despite BBC KNOWING he was guilty - AND then refusing to pay it back.

Oh and of course he also had a brain and knew he was doing wrong unlike the unwitting stupid scouser

I didn't think in this country people KNEW YOU WERE GUILTY until after you had been tried and convicted of a crime in court. It appears you know better?

It’s the BBC’s fault for not sacking him earlier.  As disgraceful as his behaviour is, it’s not up to him to repay the wages.

An update I think is relevant . Further to the PL's self serving piffle quoted in reply No. 2, you might like to read these 2 short articles:

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c3e803vgnzno, and
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c9vn8r2zwyno

Along with various gems from Rick Parry there is the very  uncomfortable fact for the PL that this government has reintroduced, in a strengthened form, the draft legislation introduced by the previous government (but which ran out of time due to the early election) to legislate the PL into some sort of rationality.  No government would waste extremely valuable Commons time if there were not a clear and pressing need.

Self serving PL piffle can be nothing but self serving PL piffle when two opposing parties, when in government, both choose to introduce legislation to restrain the carpetbagging of the PL.

Can't become law fast enough for me. Shameless and self interested profiteering.

if you read it, they would have let him off as a minor crime for watching it, the fact was he was selling it

I suspect there are many who use these sticks simply because they are unable to attend the game, for whatever reason, the tyrany of distance being one.  The same people would happily pay the club, even prefer to pay the club per view but are unable to do so because the game is not being shown on Iplayer. Instead they are forced into breaking the law.

If you read it his other concurrent sentence of 3yrs plus was for selling it.

I think you have missed the point. I couldn't give two f**s if he sold 10million of them it would not equate to even one picture of a child.

The punishment is not comparable to other crimes which carry little or no punishment, regardless of how many 'warnings' he had.

This ruling and conviction only serve to prove its the money and power that rule WHEN IT SUITS THOSE WITH MONEY AND IN POWER, not true justice.

Sadly, it proves a very old truism Ryaldinhio. Property, in this country, has far more value in the Courts, than life. It's been true for centuries and it's still true today. Rip off money from the gentry ( and today business) and it always attracts a much more severe sentence than does bashing someone on the bonce or taking naughty pics.

One might be tempted to think it's another example of the gentry, the lawmakers, the privileged, looking after their own interests again.
