Sharp second goal
« on December 01, 2024, 05:18:58 pm by philsky »

Just wondered why the ref blew his whistle after we'd scored ?

We were at the other end and it looked like it might be being chalked off but wasn't.

Seemed odd.

He was asking, or telling, Billy not to celebrate in front of the Kettering fans.

Yep,If I remember right, the Ref talked to Billy after celebrating his first goal too, thought then it was odd,and guessed it might have been about celebrating.

Maybe some long memories back to his breakthrough loan move to Rushden & Diamonds, their bitter rivals at the time ;)

I wondered why their official page had tweeted about Billy scoring..

“Who put the ball in the Kettering net?

Super @billysharp10 did.”

He caught one of their players (the goalscorer?) in an off the ball incident, just after his first goal I think. Which the ref did nothing about. After that they were giving him stick.

Not sure where these 2 clear penalties were...

Correct - Billy barged into the back of Noel-Williams off the ball just after his goal.  Not sure if it was intentional or not... but it didn't stop the crowd giving him some.

I saw that close up on the telly.
Billy went to shake hands with him and it looked like N-W wasn’t keen on the idea.
N-W is some player by the way, based on what I saw today.

The first penalty appeal was the Gibson incident with their keeper, which is debatable. The second one was probably when Billy had his shirt pulled from behind as he raced into the area. An obvious penalty.

However, Micky, you know what refs are like with shirt pulls. They seem to think it's OK. Madness.

It's great to have a player good enough to wind opposition fans up, for a change.

Being nice doesn't win matches.

Whether it was a penalty or not, the idea that if you "get the ball", you can't possibly commit a foul at the same time is a truly bizarre one.
