Quote from: Ziggazaggarover on March 20, 2025, 02:24:12 pmI go in the hospitality from time to time , I like the bar with proper glasses and also padded seat on halfway line , also sometimes takes ages to get served if you want a half-time pint in the concourses , as for pubs for people in 40s , Doncaster as a reputation of having a good nightlife and also day drinking . If I was getting the train in I would cross the busy road outside the railway station and there is the plough and tut and shive . Then would walk upto the black bull around the market , then maybe have one in the old wool market which as loads of street food stalls and live music , then onto the red lion just on the other side of the market , then work my way up hall gate , Yorkshire grey then hall cross and then salutation, then 15 min walk to ground . Could stop off at The Hyde park club midway so the walk isn’t as long , however this is an old working men’s club so don’t expect anything fancy with that one ..... more like 10 minutes by ambulance to DRI for a stomach pump after that lot!

Hope they had a good night, but let’s be honest the town centre is an absolute dump. The ‘nightlife’ is full of chavy 20 and 30 year olds wanting a tear up and there’s very little for the 40+ generation to have a nice drink.

I respectfully think you are completely wrong on numerous points here.

Admittedly I don’t go out like I used to but hardly ever saw trouble, I don’t think the youth go out drinking as much these days either so town isn’t full of them.

Been a while since I’ve been out ant night and as others have said, afternoons are marginally better. Apart from that new Irish bar and a couple of others in between i couldn’t believe how dead it was. The only other lasting memory was people chundering in streets and trying to work out where might be even remotely civilized for a bunch of blokes 40+. Stand by the original comment though - it’s largely a dump with a bunch of run down pubs or overly chavy bars. Definitely not in a hurry to return and isn’t a patch on what it was even 15 years ago.
