£10,000 Lottery Annual Draw
« on December 23, 2024, 04:42:03 pm by Donnywolf »
Having won this once , and also lost in the following years Final I think the Club do not showcase this event to its maximum

Of all the Lottery Players how many people knew the Draw was this week. I didn't and 4 others nearby didn't either. Ok I don't expect an email saying you haven't been selected but it needs hyping up

Anyone know the 10 k winner. I've just looked through the DROS Site and there is nothing yet unless I looked in wrong spot. Blow your own trumpet please

I'll throw in , I couldn't hear a word the winner said but that's another issue.

What I would suggest to those running this Comp , draw attention to it to get people talking. My suggestion is use the Big Board to show a Nominee for the Grand Final ( and it's date ) to get people talking and wondering how it works and how they can be in it to win it

It could be pre drawn as I presume the Pukka Pie Draws were and people were drawn to the Board and it had a bit of pzazz and got people talking

Do the same in August 2025 , get a decent PA system , and Jonathon to explain the 10000 Draw and then say let's see who the first lucky players are who have a chance to win 10k in December

Then run 1 winners number and name and then the second winners number and name . Saturday would have been a damp squib except for the Winner and those who had been in with a chance BUT most people probably missed it all together or hadn't a clue how those on the Pitch got there and what was happening and WHY

Drawing 2 people a Month for 5 Months would maximize its impact , it's usefulness to the Club and I would hope create more Players BUT it needs to come out , front and centre

Being a Winner was great and my Wife said if you win make sure you buy the 9 others a drink. That wasn't possible as we were from different Stands and different areas of Stands BUT it wasn't till a year later when I lost that I was handed an envelope and realized the losing 9 finalists got 15000 each ( joke )

No actually I got a very nice consolation prize of maybe a Hospitality  Meal and Ticket for an upcoming game in the East Stand. How many people knew that ? I didn't know and Id won the previous year and didn't see the losers get anything

Perhaps anyone losing this weekend could update us as things may have changed but if the losers DID get a prize again it's another major plus point and surely would add to the overall event

It's just my opinion , it's a great Comp , it was great to win , I won when I lost and I just think not ENOUGH is made of it. It's an open goal with the Ball just waiting for a Copps tap in IMO

I didn’t even know that they had done the draw Wolfie.
When was it?

Good constructive suggestions Wolf.

I feel the competition to decide the winner would be enhanced by having each of the ten lads kick the ball one at a time thus adding to the suspense.

Couldn’t agree more wolf.

£10,000 is a heck of a lot of money (incidentally it shows how well the lottery must be doing to be able to table that sort of brass) but as you point out, it was certainly not ‘heralded’ by the club in fact, I had to ‘confer’ with my brother to ascertain what was being presented to whom & how were the recipients ‘chosen’.

The absolutely sh**e tannoy system coupled with our CBBC man on the mic didn’t help!

I mean, does this ‘event’ happen annually on the final home game of the season before Christmas?

It’s another opportunity missed by the club to ‘big up’ a relatively ‘massive’ event by & for the club.

C’mon, it’s not a schools penalty shoot out where the winner gets two free tickets to a game is it.

Shoddy, shoddy, dowaddy (sorry couldn’t resist. It is nearly Christmas!).

I'm glad the first few replies seem to back my view.

For Hound . It was on the Pitch at HT v Tranmere.

10 random people assembled each with a Number ( mine was 8 when I won ) , then 10 aspiring Rovers players kick a ball all at the same time and the winner was the ball that finished nearest the Half Way line

I don't know the Number that won , nor the person that won but that isn't my beef

As the 2 posts above state ( paraphrase ) they or others didn't know what was happening or why

Contrast that with the late lamented Pukka Pie draw and it's just a chance to bring it out the Lottery 10k into the floodlights and make people WANT to know what it is and WANT to join in

Win win for the Club and those who win any prize be it weekly or annually .

Agree. They are strapped for time I know but the suspense would have been heightened by single kicks but tbf doing it simultaneously was probably fairer in the windy conditions as Number 10 would have got an unfair advantage  over Number 1 as he "learned" the conditions

I won via the Apprentices kicking balls trying to chip Balls in a Dustbin at Cantley Park a few days earlier. Number 8 managed it but I was telling the man at the side of me , it's a 3 you've won but my mates were leaping up and down knowing it was my Number 8

I lost doing the Tennis Ball drawing which for me has more excitement but the main thing is it just needs better publicity which would be a win win

For Usherwide ... Thanks for the replies and I have 3 things to add by way of reply

You say 10000 means the Lottery is doing well but as well as that there is 500 quid a week going begging so factor that in as well !

The draw used to be in November. I think I won on 19th Nov 2016. It's gradually slid till now. The PA system was rubbish then as well lol. At least that's my excuse. ( If you look back on Forum to that date you will see the unfair abuse I got )

Last 3 sentences , I give you 10 out of 10 for  :scarf:

Just so you know Wolfie, I was talking to Nudga at half time up at the back of the South Stand and I have to say that I wasn’t able to hear a single word of what was being said via the PA system.

Best place to hear it is in Toilets in West Stand North end ( other loos are available ) but it's sad when past players are interviewed and you have choice of listening to them or seeing them but not hearing them

Agree with all of this - I play the lottery every week and the first I knew of the £10k draw was when they were setting up at H/T

For Usherwide . When I won I was interviewed on the Pitch as the guy was on Saturday and despite having thought of what I might say ( in case I won ) and being someone who was told by my HR Director " you are a great bloke BUT you are totally incapable of putting a full stop at the end of a sentence " or a gobby person as everyone knows I totally froze

I looked back and this sums it up I suppose

Is there a page with information about the lottery?

On DROS there is an explanation of it etc and if you are a participant you get an email on a Monday listing the winners

Top prize £500 a week .... well worth winning

I think you have to be an alliance member not just a lottery player, I am but had no idea the prize was up for grabs this week until I saw them setting up on the pitch

I didn’t realise that the finalists had been drawn. Oh well at least I didn’t get to the final and miss out. That wouldn’t have been the best start to Christmas.

My point exactly ...... its the not knowing that bothers me

Missing a chance to really promote a Competition ( and get Promotion as well )

Win win as I've said too many times already in this thread

The gentleman who won the 10k sits in front of me in the West Stand. Four of us on our row, however were enjoying some hospitality in the East Stand, so missed all the half time shenanigans. I wont mention his name, and I don't know if he frequents this site, but I do know he's spent many years sponsoring players etc. so has probably clawed some money back!
I was also delighted for him as travelling to a Rovers game is a 320 mile round trip for him, plus he's had a rough trot with health issues in the last few years. A worthy winner  :scarf: :scarf:

Yes HR , though I don't know him but good grief he deserves the 10k for those marathon treks and the sponsoring you have brought to our attention.

I know the feeling only too well. Of winning the 10k that is Well done him I say  :woohoo:

Yes I think he handed the keys back a couple of years ago after the brewery upped the rent, despite the obvious decline in trade during Covid.
He'd been landlord for nearly 30 years
