The last member of The Band has died.
As part of Ronnie Hawkins band The Hawks they came to the notice of a certain Bob Dylan and became his backing band during the controversial 1966 World tour in which Dylan played Electric. The crowds wanting more of the old Bob Dylan following his acoustic 1st half, returning in the 2nd half playing electric their response as well as a cacophony of booing also including the cat call "get rid of the band!"
The name stuck
Hudson, a multi instrumentalist, was trained as a classical player. To avoid conflict with his parents who objected to him playing rock The Band members paid him a small amount as a music master which is the job he told his parents he had.
As Eric Clapton said he heard Music from The Big Pink, their debut album, and it changed his life!
