It has been done !

In 2013, Conference Premier side Luton Town (in the 5th tier) beat Premier League side Norwich City 1–0 in the FA Cup Fourth Round. In 2017, National League side Lincoln City (also in the 5th tier) beat Premier League side Burnley 1–0 in the FA Cup 5th Round. It was the first time a non-League side had reached the Quarter Finals in 103 years. Remarkably, both the Luton and Lincoln wins were away from home.

A number of non-league teams have beaten top flight teams before Premier League days. A few examples

1988-89 Sutton vs Coventry
1971-72 Hereford vs Newcastle
1948-49 Yeovil vs Sunderland
1947-48 Colchester vs Huddersfield

There may be more?

I know they weren’t a top flight team at the time, they were in the following May when they won league two, but Leicester City when they lost to non league Harlow Town in the 3rd replay in Jan 1980.
A couple of things about that game, Paul Edmunds the ex manager of Doncaster Belles, and husband of Shelia Edmunds, the founder and captain of Doncaster Belles, was a professional at Leicester at the time but wasn’t in the 12 man squad, might have been injured after breaking his wrist.
Also a mate of mine had a family member who was heavily involved in match on the Harlow side

To be fair, it’s worth mentioning that the Hereford game was played on a ploughed field, which is always a great leveller.

These days, of course, the pitch matters less than the sort of side Premiership sides put out. Last time we played Palace, they pretty much had a full strength side out - this time, it’s anyone’s guess who they’ll play.

Anyone know when the last time we were the only south Yorkshire team left in the competition?

Possibly the last time we reached the 5th round,

Who will ever forget (Ray?) Crawford’s block buster for Hereford into the top corner of Newcastle’s keepers net! Still shown today whenever BBC are covering FA Cup games…..& rightly so!

I think it was Ronnie Radford who scored that worldie for Hereford.
If my memory serves me well I think Ray Crawford scored the winner for Colchester against Leeds in the early seventies

Yes definitely ronnie radford.
The pitch was always in a terrible condition so would have been been a critical factor in helping the Hereford players.
Unfortunately with the condition of our playing surface, it will crease the palace advantage.
I hope our players just give all they have and go for it. When we played the before it seemed to me that we started with two much caution, seemed to remember we did much better in the second half and were unlucky not to score on a few occasions.

Yes, CSR. Leeds were the best team in England at the time, and Colchester shocked them by racing into a 3-0 lead. Leeds pulled it back to 3-2, but couldn't find an equaliser.

One of the biggest shocks of the 1970s.

The Royal Engineers won the FA cup in 1875   beating Old Etonians   Drew 1 1 then won the replay 2-0 with crowds of 2000 and 3000 respectively    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1875_FA_Cup_final

Some interesting bits in that wiki article changing ends after each goal and teams basically having gk 3xdefenders anfd the rest forwards

Colchester3 Leeds 2.
I was at Belle Vue that day and the score kept coming in on somebody’s transistor radio at the town end. Ray Crawford won a League title medal with Ipswich a few years before that under Alf Ramsey.

Going by his record’s he must have a very good striker, 290 goals in less that 500 matches and a couple of England caps

Tottenham Hotspur in the 1900/01 season.

Teddy Sheringham scored the winner.

Ronnie Radford. Never had so many snorkels and parkas converged together since the Mods and Rockers dust up at Brighton. I wonder if Leslie Ash was shagged behind the refreshment stand.
