Love the player and his passion.

But.

He looks for the hollywood ball way too much and also switches off and ends up out of position. Looks for the crowd pleasing crunching tackle too often when he just needs to reign it in a bit and keep calm.

The guy is a talent for sure but just needs to calm down and be more composed.

The lad will be a great player for us but would benefit from some nurturing by Richard Wood as someone else mentioned.

Definitly. Someone to keep talking to him through the game and reign him in when he wanders

Definitely the worst game I've seen from him, probably most at fault for the second goal (I think, f**king lost count) with powder puff header away. Too many hoofed balls forward without control, IF we go up next season he won't have as much time to look for those killer balls and needs to learn to play it safe more often

I love the lad and a few of ours but sometimes I get lost in honour to DRFC.

If you look at a comparison to Jay/Olowu to say Demetreiou...and that's in L2. I expect when we go into L1 we will see another step to players that are ready for Champ.

Sometimes get rose tinted on

But i dare say, if wood could get back for end of season then, i would prefer a wood olowu combo

It's that easy on the eye again when he has time, and the beating of the chest before the game that attracts, not good defending like Olowu, Wood, and Anderson who do the dirty work well, and Faulkner and Flint could do for us.

I said a few weeks ago that Jay has been really good this season but it was time for him to step out of the front line for a bit. He’s very young and it’s his first full season in league football. He can’t play 40+ games at a good level.

Nobody plays well for 40+ games a season though,
Can’t be taking our best players out the team at this point of the season

It happens.

He’s had a great season, he’s just had a bad game.

Understand dropping him if he’d had 3 or 4 clangers but bit of an overreaction here.

The centre back pairings don't need touching they have both been outstanding bad games happe,.
However I do believe we should be keeping Faulkner or Kasper Williams close to the team so they could benefit from seeing these guys play.

Better for them to go out and play football somewhere else.

Players do need rests.

He has the ability just like Olowu to run with the ball and split their midfielders, yet his Hail Mary balls that seldom hit there target and just come straight back , is just not what’s needed . The defence were all over place last night and not working together as a unit .

Those long passes are not just something he does off the top of his head.
They are part of a team plan and can open up defences.
Several of them last night very nearly got Mols in behind the defence, and two or three did do just that.
He is playing to instructions.

He's that that in him though which is great. Look at the winner last week!

He definitely needs to calm it down a bit though and start doing the basics. He's a young lad who clearly just gets a bit carried away. He loves the club, loves playing for us and had a great connection with the fans. We'd all be the same if we were in his position.

Just keep it simple. That's all Wood and Anderson/Olowu did last year in the run. Let the midfield play the ball.

And from Tom who is a no frills central defender.

TA is way better on the ball than people give him credit for.

His issue these days is declining pace, and possibly the bad head injuries over the years have made him a bit less blood and thunder.

Ye what he said. Run him into the ground and now he’s injured. So obvious this was coming.

Tom was great during the run in last season so there's no reason to believe he can't again. As GazLaz suggested, the injury to Jay could be a blessing in disguise as long as he's not out for too long. He was starting to get a bit raggy of late and as other suggested just needs to tone things down a bit.

Karlos, Kasper has been put in at Whitby ( not a good side at that level) above his ability, and is not getting a run of games.
He did what a lot do, played above his norm, people gushed, got the loan played well his first game got subbed at half time in a 5-0 drubbing in his second game  got  3 minutes as sub the next game and has been unused sub since.
That after being on the end of quite a few heavy defeats in the u18s that didn't look good.
He should be loaned out a level lower where he could get game time.
It is not just the football at that level, its the pace and rough and tumble the lads have to cope with, and a lot can't cope playing against decent players in their twenties that see them as easy meat on all sorts of different surfaces, not like a carpet.

There is no doubt we will miss Jay against this opposition, although I don’t think Tom will let us down.
His experience will help with the number of young players in the team, my only concern is the limited game time, during the last couple of months.

I wonder if we might go 3 at the back with Senior like we did at Bradford and play them on the counter. Might be our best shot.

Although our most useful player in that system now plays in Scotland...

I'm gutted for Jay but on the other hand glad he's not going to showcase himself in front of a few million watching tonight - I'm expect big Tom to step up as he always has done and have a stormer tonight.

The Palace forwards should be made to use diving boots, so Tom has a chance to keep up with them
