Both sides have had many tens of millions pumped into them. That was never going to happen to us. Giving SOD a few extra million wasn’t going to put us in the EPL.

i tried that one about The Lazarus Group in Donny being invited onto the board last season especially as we did a Lazarus  - i think Lazarus have their name somewhere on the Racecourse

I don't think i have mentioned about trying to get owners of the racecourse interested - it is a bit of an obvious idea

What a load of codswallop, wishing some huge multinational would come in and 'invest' in the club.

The common denominator with those two clubs, plus others like Brighton and now Wrexham, is someone choosing those clubs for personal and/or strategic reasons, personally throwing themselves and their fortunes into a long term vision, and taking the risks that come with it.

Those clubs are no longer recognisable to the ones we crossed swords with the only resemblance being the name. Then there's some, including Gillingham and Carlisle, where that vision still seems a million miles away despite their relatively new American ownership.

In the real world, we just aren't as strategically as attractive so we have to rely on local people made good as benefactors investing relatively modest sums that we can relate to, knowing our matchday income still makes a big difference. Whatever we achieve as a club is a fairer reflection of our fan base where every point is hard earned and not given.

At the time "In my world" I thought that Russian who bought into the club effectively bought a life insurance policy - meaning old putin dare not have him assassinated   if he was ever to get on his top ten "bucket list" same with Abramovich due to their high profiles

Now there are only 4 current EPL teams with majority UK ownership - Tottenham, Brentford, Brighton and Southampton.

And only Bristol City, Coventry, Derby, Luton,  Middlesborough, Preston, and Stoke City in the Championship too....

So only 11 of the top 44 clubs in England are owned by UK citizens or organisations today. 75% are 'investment vehicles'...

PS. Having looked it up only 28 of the 48 clubs in Divs 3 and 4 are UK owned too. 42% have overseas owners. So of the 92 clubs, only 39 are UK owned. Over 57% of the entire PL and Football League have overseas owners.

PPS. Anyone got any idea if any UK citizens or organisations own any overseas league clubs?? Is this statistic about foreign ownership of English league clubs just part of a commercial back and forth across the world, or, is England exceptional? If it is, it would lead to quite a few mega interesting questions, and, conclusions, about the motivations of football leadership in this country.
