Any knowledgable mechanics on here?

Skoda Mk 3 vrs, loosing coolant with no visible leaks, runs good for about 25 miles before coolant low warning comes on, cooling system still holding slight pressure overnight when cold but needs topping up in a morning, it’s got me stumped, any ideas anyone?

My Golf was losing coolant, not as rapidly as that though. Turned out to be a worn out auxiliary pump.

I'm not a mechanic BTW. Just seemed a similar problem in a VW group vehicle

It’s had a new water pump, new radiator and new coolant expansion bottle. The engine in the VRS is the Golf GTI engine

If there are no signs of where the coolant is going, Filo the Head Gasket sounds most likely. Don't know the Skoda engine and any similarity with the Golf but I had a Golf that suddenly was overheating and blowing the water out of the pressure release.  That was caused by the water pump plastic impeller shearing and not moving the water between engine and radiator.  No visible signs of the failure other than the overheating.

I would say head gasket, but it runs perfect, never misses a beat and is as quick as it should be, I’m thinking either EGR cooler has a leak and is sucking in air, or the heater core is knackered, but the heater works ok, other area is intercooler on front of engine

Hairline crack on the Cylinder or engine, I had a BMW doing just that, I spent £400 at the dealership, no better, I went to see my Garage owning pal , who poured two bottles of a sealant they put into Rolls Royce engines when they are built, he said I’d this stops it, get rid of the Car ,you will have a very expensive crack in the engine case or cylinder head, I did do , it stopped so I immediately off loaded the Car in PX.

That’s why I PX it to a main dealer, Burrell for a SAAB 95.

And what happens then, if the car doesn't meet the main dealer's used car portfolio it gets sent to auction for another dealer to purchase.

With or without knowledge of the major underlying issue the new dealer will likely slap a 6 month warranty onto it.

Hopefully it breaks down during this time and the 3rd part warranty company stump up the cash.
Some garages actually do this with a bit of intention. Legally they get once chance to fix an issue on a car and if the warranty cover the parts and labour they are quids in. Especially when the warranty labour rate could be higher than general public.


Unfortunately the issue might show it's head outside of the warranty period to which someone potentially lower down the economic ladder has to foot the bill.
