He’s been good of late. Giving him a new contract would be suboptimal though.

Tom was tremendous today.
He has been with us for quite a while now and remains loyal to rovers.

He’s only 31,
Definitely worth another couple of years, been here for 7 years now and been a colossus most of that time. And was great for us in league one last time.
Wood will leave, olowu will probably leave, Anderson should be offered a deal

If we go up I too thought the next step up would be one too many for Tom however, (& hands up here) if we didn’t offer him a contract, even as a squad player in an area where we know injuries can have a massive impact on the team, who would you look to in order to give you his level of cover when we need more quality in midfield & forward positions?

So I simply ask, at the age of 31, with only McGrath, Olowu (fingers crossed) & Woody clearly now well past his sell by date the only players to have played in that back two (don’t scream Bailey, it’s not his ‘natural’ position) why would you not offer him a year with a possible years extension contract?

Bailey was great at the back today but we really need him in midfield. Tom would be a perfect back up CH, not the most cultured or easy on the eye but he does the basics of heading and kicking the ball away from our goal very well.

I feel Anderson’s ability on the ball has been generally underrated.

Agreed, his passing is good.

I don't disagree, but when he's under a bit of pressure he's not one to try anything clever he'll just get rid. When he's got a bit of time and space I do like to see him carry the ball forward

If we get promoted it is going to be a sizeable leap to League One level. A very hard decision about offering Tom a contract at that level.

I really enjoyed watching Tom today.

What a bloody hero he was. He won countless headers, intercepted the ball so many times, kept his head up when clearing his lines ….. it was a vintage performance from him.
He gave his all for the team today.

I really wouldn’t be unhappy to see Tom stay with us another couple of seasons.

Bang on. There were a couple of occasions today where he could've made a man and ball tackle but gave a throw in or free kick away. Instead he measured the situation and steered the pressure away from our goal. Great performance.

I think Tom’s underrated by quite a few. He’s stuck with it and has been excellent. I’d offer him a new contract, no doubt. I don’t think L1 is beyond him. He’s played there before.

Bailey was immense. Said it before but he’s a really good centre half. Crew was good too, we can play more football with him in there.

Bailey as centre back with Crew centre mid is the play for the last few games for me. No point playing McGrath when he’s not fit either.

And yes big Tom was colossal. Need to be careful offering contracts out there though. Especially if we go up.

Great ball by Crew for Street to get the penalty. He did his fair share off the ball also. Thought Clifton was pretty anonymous yesterday

For the flack that some give TSL he had a good game today did everything he needed to do. But if it hadn’t been for good saves from their keeper it could have been 5/6

The one thing TSL does give you is really good kicking especially when under pressure. 9/10 and I hope I’m not jinxing the poor lad saying this but he connects well and it’s up the pitch or in row Z. That’s one of the main things you want from a keeper.

I just think his overall contribution over the last couple of years hasn’t been of L1 standard (if we are there!). He’s been good of late, but Biggins, for example, turned it on at the end of last season and whatever happened to him??!?

Honestly, Anderson has been a great servant and is a top bloke. Sentiment can’t come into decision making though. He would be very easy to upgrade from a football point of view.

The problem we have now Gaz is that Wood will leave and probably Olowu, so we'd need cover at CB.
No one knows yet if Faulkner can step up LG1 level, McGrath probably can but again, who knows for sure.

So give Tom another year to fill the Richard Wood gap and bring in another LG1 ready CB.

IF we go up of course.

For what it’s worth, I’d sign Sam Stubbs to replace him. Bradford City, been on loan at Cheltenham this season. Out of contract in the summer. Bigger, better, younger.

I like Jack Shepherd who’s been on loan at Bradford from Barnsley. Unlikely to be able to sign him though given the dynamics.

For me, should we be promoted, in the summer we need to be building a team that can develop into a L1 top half/ playoff challenger. I don’t see Anderson at that level any more.

We offered some silly contracts last season , need to establish which division we're in first before we offer contracts to fringe players. I'd be looking to cut Sharp loose either way though, must be taking up a sizeable amount in wages.

Still think he can do a job within our squad for L1
We would need 4 decent centre backs, and looks like we will only have Jay.
Even if Joe signs, that still going to leave us short, so will be difficult to recruit 2 or 3 of the quality we will need.

I know we Faulkner, Flint and Williams, but all 3 won’t be at L1 standard for next season. How do we know someone won’t come in for Jay!

Therefore extending Tom’s contract surely must be a viable option.
Provided he still is happy to commute between Burnley Doncaster, not easy journey these days with the traffic volume.
