Tommy Gaynor against Blackpool in 87/89. If you were there, you know!

I remember that goal, I’m thinking it was against Bolton

Cowley reckons they controlled 75% of the game!!!
Thats ridiculous. Having the ball doesn’t always mean controlling the game. At two nil we went into game management mode. We had no need to chase and let them have the ball. They had no real attacks even with greater possession and we eventually hit them on the counter as was always likely to happen. Perfect.

100%.

McCann is a genius at times. After that second goal he basically closed the game down.

Could be Draytonian, Could be. If so, then Stevie Lister's  brilliant effort would have to be another match. It was a Bremner promotion season, York were decent, the ground was pretty full and the Rovers won. Somebody else must have seen it surely?!

Cheers!

He has taken a series of pictures of that situation and they are shown in the gallery section on the DROS.

The highlight of the Cusack era without a doubt and it was definitely Blackpool, he got the winner as well in a 2-1 win with a header from an exquisite Brian Flynn cross.

Bob,
I think you maybe referring to the 3-1 win at Bootham Crescent on a Tuesday evening in October 1979. Lister scored two with Jack Lewis netting the third. Rovers were on a great run of eight wins in nine games, the previous Friday they’d won 3-0 at Edgeley Park and then followed up the win at York with a 2-0 win over league leaders Portsmouth the following Friday at Bellevue.

Rovers were well in promotion contention until the wheels came off in early November after a 2-1 win over Peterborough, it would be mid February before they would win another league match.

Owen Bailey seemed to have a lot of family members at the game didn’t he. ;-)

There are a lot of them there every game hound. His grandad loves to come and watch him play. I was talking to him in hospitality one game. That group also spend a lot behind the bar. Bit of a north east corner with Jamis Sterry and Luke also having family there.

I'm pretty sure that we won at York 2 seasons in a row. A 3-1 victory with a great goal from Steve Lister, and a 1-0 victory with a great goal from Stuart Mell.

Maybe DU or some other statto can confirm?

Thank you Surrey!! That must have been it. Night match. Stevie Lister (a beautiful, elegant player).  I thought we'd  scored 3. Lol. Got most of the rest wrong though.... Long, long time ago now. 46 years.Where the hell did that go??
I remember that Portsmouth game too....

Memories! Went all those games, I remember the Portsmouth game, first time I remember seeing and hearing a big away turnout that wasn’t local, at that time seemed like a big club had come to visit. Wasn’t Jimmy Dickinson the famous pompey player manager taken ill that night???

Great talent. His late grandad was a regular at home games a year or two back.

Perhaps we could adopt one of his songs to make an entrance to.
