It is interesting to look at the scorers of our first goals in League 2, Caraboa and FA Cup matches over the season so far. I have restricted the stats to goals that I consider have really “counted”, the ones that have featured in games where we’ve scored first (but lost) or games we’ve won and games we’ve drawn.
My view would be that the player who faces an opportunity to put us into the lead with the scores level or with us behind, is under more pressure than those who come afterwards.
Needless to say, Molyneux tops the list with 7 such goals, but after him comes Clifton with 5. Next, level on 4, are Bailey and Street (whose success judged over only 4 months is notable). Interestingly Sharp stands at 3 and his playing time possibly exceeds Clifton's and Street’s.
Enough has been said about Moly and his abilities go further than crucial goal-scoring, but this does seem an interesting stat.
It almost goes without saying that you’d expect Bailey to be there with his outstanding heading ability and work-rate, but some, who are critical of Clifton, might only reluctantly acknowledge that whilst he may be no Brian Stock or Richie Wellens (2 in the same team who could also "mix it") or Tommy Rowe – I could go on – he does provide a useful battering ram in midfield with an excellent Goals: Minutes played ratio.
He picks up Yellow cards (at speed too!), but he has a clear vision and confidence which certainly has always been a telling asset in the game.
I think that Street’s goals are the result of similar drive and determination, akin to what we got from Ironside last year, and show that in football - L2 at any rate - that a strong will and self-belief bring reward, even if some are reluctant to admit it in Clifton’s case.

Agree re Clifton, he's a blunt tool but adds muscle and legs, and he has the knack of scoring. He'd be starting tomorrow for sure for me.

When Clifton scores ….. the Rovers win
When Clifton scores ….. the Rovers win
Repeat several times.
