Street / Baldwin red card
« on April 28, 2025, 02:57:07 pm by keyser_soze »
Any insight from later in the evening at the Sal as to what Rob Street said to Baldwin at HT?

They were walking off amiably even with a handshake after a fierce battle with each giving as good as they got and Street pointed to where he had won a foul earlier in the game. Next thing Baldwin is over incensed at the Ref and talks himself into what looked like a yellow then a straight red.

Certainly no contentious incident I can remember in the lead up so just wonder what he was so het up about?

Street strikes me as a bit of a wind up and it certainly goes from nowt to a flash point in an instant. Wonder if he wound him up and watched him react?

I think that Gibsons response was more of a wind up when he applauded the ref for showing Baldwin the red card.

Retrospective though, the cards were out before Gibson got involved.

It all unfolded more or less in front of where I sit. From what I recall, there seemed to be no real thing that ignited it. Baldwin and the Ref just ended up walking off in the same direction, then Baldwin started running his mouth, over what, only he and the Ref know. But you could see him rise from 1 - 11 in no time at all. The yellow came out, and despite the keeper trying to push him away, it waw too late, whatever he said next was worthy of another yellow. Great to see the Ref strong enough to do that.

What an absolute kitson of a bloke. Imagine having to face the dressing room after you've done that.

Baldwin had been holding Street all half. Almost bear hugging him. Same foul every time. Ref pulled him up on one to the left of the box about 25 yards out and Baldwin started at the ref then.

The idiot then excelled himself at halftime. Bradford forums are in absolute meltdown about him.

I sometimes wonder if these refs don’t do themselves justice in these situations and inflame things themselves. Pretty daft not to walk away at the point of getting a yellow, and it’s obvious whatever he said when he turned his back was the final straw for the ref. Definitely a straight red too, no second yellow shown.

I think that defender was that exasperated with half he had just had he just flipped. Street had run him absolutely ragged in that half. He couldn’t cope with him. Credit goes to Street.

There wasn’t a second yellow - it was pass go and collect straight red.

What a player Street is though. Pace, power, strength and finishing. How he hasn’t got a look in at Lincoln is beyond me.

Agreed League 1 must be some standard if Street can’t get a game at Lincoln !

He could well get a game next season with Lincoln. Have we been his finishing school?

Ah fair enough, assumed I'd missed the 2nd yellow with the keeper being in front of the ref as it happened. Yes, Street had given him a right old 45 minutes.

I said to my Lincoln mate, this guy can have it played in behind to run on to or have it to feet and be the target man. They must have had some options.

Alexander said he asked the ref about it and the ref had no choice! and it was a straight red

“It was quite far behind me and I didn’t really get it because there was no real animosity in the game between the two teams. It wasn’t bubbling over.

“Then as the players came past, Sam Walker said that Aden had been sent off.

“I spoke to the referee at the start of the second half what happened and it was the only course of action that he could take.”

On whether he feels let down, he added: “Yeah, I’ll be honest yeah. It was something we’ve spoken about this week especially and with three or four senior players.

The ref also took no lip from Sarcevic in the first half after the player continued to back chat to the ref after having had a warning.
It’s good that the ref was strong enough to deal with those type of players.

Wasn’t it Baldwin that got rounded on by the Swindon players after conceding the last minute own goal? Was hard not to draw a conclusion that from those scenes that he must’ve been giving them some mouth during the game. The evidence from the other day supports that assertion. What an idiot.

I'd been worrying about the standard in L1.

Then I remembered that this side won an away match in L1 three years ago.

L. Jones
Knoyle
Olowu
Younger
Horton
Smith
Galbraith
Rowe
Martin
Dodoo
Agard
Subs:
Mitchell
Bogle
Barlow
Seaman
Hasani
Blythe
Ravenhill

I think we'll be ok...

Ollie Younger. Didn't we pay a fee for him?

Checked to see what he's been up to since he left us, doesn't seem to have kicked a ball in anger, and Transfermarkt reckons he's retired at 25.

Some real pain reading through that team sheet though. Jonny Mitchell, christ...

How many of that 18, playing at the standard they did that season, would have got in our first XI this year?

Knoyle Vs Sterry would be an interesting one.

Oluwu wasn't up to much that season. I doubt he'd have made our bench this year. Younger possibly.

Galbraith and Smith were ok, but nothing more. They might have got a place. Rowe was already on a rapid slide when we signed him, but on his best days would certainly have been competitive in this squad. Martin never impressed me. All flash and fanny merchant stuff and little actual substance. I wouldn't have him before either of our wingers. And Christ alive, those two up front...

The bench? Not one of them woulde have made it into our second XI this year.

There wasn’t a second yellow - it was pass go and collect straight red.

The incident was briefly featured on Sky Sports ‘Ref Watch’ on Monday and they thought the referee had given two yellows and a red, but watching the coverage it was clearly a yellow followed by a straight red.

Without sound commentary it’s hard to know definitively, but it will almost certainly have been foul and abusive language, as just arguing with the referee would constitute a second yellow.

Jordan Gibson is close by and clearly he heard something along those lines which made him point and gesture to the referee.

I don't know him, but Ollie Younger lives near me in Skipton. He is a 'friend of a friend' of my daughter.

Ollie posted this on his Linkedin account last October:

"Hello everyone,

It has been a tough road to recovery in many ways, however I’m pleased to announce that I will be making a return to football in 8 weeks time.

I’ve worked tirelessly to get myself back to this point and always had the belief and desire that I’ll get myself back to doing what I love again.

It would be greatly appreciated if I can get any help or opportunities that would get me back involved at a club, whether it be training or contractual.

Just reaching out to everyone who can maybe help or pass on my details.

Thanks

Ollie"

Hope he gets somewhere. Lincoln away when we won 1-0 thanks to a Gardner penalty he was class.

Against John Marquis if I remember rightly. One bright spot in that season, really enjoyed that away day. They had Morgan Whittaker and Liam Cullen playing for them.

Surprised no one has picked up on Alexander’s quotes in paragraph 2 and 3. Alexander came straight towards the ref as he was pulling a red card, waving his arms as if to plead not to ‘do it’. He was totally aware of the incident and was talking to the ref there and then. Why is he talking garbage?

I think that was one of his assistants RiS - one of the staff was definitely trying to calm the ref, but think GA had already gone back in.
