I can’t off the top of my head think,of a player that we had for two seasons in a row (on loan).
Has it happened, it does seem to be a rarity.

Jordan Houghton?

Yeah, good shout that.
Anyone else?

Jonathan Forte

Matt Mills?

Matt Mills was loan followed by permanent transfer, not two loans

Like Sulli and Sharp?  Perhaps we could do with another similar signing now.!

My bad was 2 seperate loans in the same season cause he went back just before Christmas cause he was injured and came back in January. Close enough...

Didn’t we resign Shape on loan from Leeds or Southampton when we were in the Championship with Dickov?

Sharp’s loans wouldn’t have been in consecutive seasons..

On Gotts any idea of his probable role? Doesn’t seem to have the numbers in goals etc to be signed for an attacking role so is he a partner/replacement for Broadbent in the deeper roles?

McCann says he can play 6, 8 or 10 so I reckon we'll have to wait and see where he slots in.

I don't reckon he's a six in a McCann team, it's not a simple tackle and short pass kind of role. He fits better into the 8/10.

As I put in the Rumour mill he was the Barrow POTY and PPOTY for 2025 and the Fans POTS for 2025 also..... so I think we may have a decent player.

From the looks Gotts is replacing what Kelly was playing this year (when starting obviously), with the ability to cover RB if needed. This season he played with Campbell who was the 6, but then he did cover that role as well when Campbell was out but it isn't the best place to put him.

He was the corner taker for Barrow and even though he is Right Footed, he can whip a decent ball in with his left.

Obviously Barrow player with 3 back this yeah with a front 2 or 3 sometimes, so can't compare it directly to what we did but looks promising.

Alot of ability and at 25 coming into his own so I for one am happy with this signing.

That’s up to Grant but either way he played as a 6 last season according to those who watched him every week, I never stated that’s where Grant would play him

It's always tempting to pigeon hole players but often, it's about finding the right blend of players who can gell together. Good players can adapt.

We've got good competition in the midfield areas which also means depth. Whilst we moaned and groaned a bit about the lack of cohesion at times, they all contributed (bar Close obvs). To get through a full season, we need that depth particularly good players who can come on from the bench and be just as strong at minute 90 as minute 1.

I'm sure Gotts will help us to up the ante to another notch, which we'll need in League One.

Grant likes him because he’s a very similar player to what he was. Think he fits the profile of a GM central midfield player for sure. Good presser, good set piece taker (which will definitely improve us) and a good character.

Be interesting to see what happens to Westbrook and Close. Surely they are surplus to requirements.

Think writing was on the wall for Close to be fair but not sure on Westbrook, got some game time end of the season. Thinking about it did Close even go to Ibiza or any of the stuff with the team?

Think we will find out sooner than later as i dont see McCann having anyone coming back to pre season who he feels is surplus.

I thought Ben Close wanted to go back down south to be near his family and why he went on loan to Eastleigh?

From the Gotts interview seems like we have someone who likes to get on the ball, technically is strong and has a good delivery.
The times i thought this season that we needed someone in the middle to get the game by the scruff of the neck or indeed being disappointed with some our crossing was numerous.
So this lad looks like the perfect fit. If he has good physicality too then we are laughing. I would say it’s ‘Adios’ to Close for a start.

The situation with Westbrook has been bizarre, he started the season brightly until he got injured and then when he returned to fitness never got a look in until the final few games or so where he showed his quality when he came on as sub .

I’m sure Grant said they had quite nasty injuries to come back from, Close was beginning to show some form before he got that high boot, but we have barely seen him since. I like him he controls the game and tempo, and keeps the ball movin, I’m not so sure he’s a Mcann type player though.
I think Crew and  the lad from Spurs we had are all just about similar types and the player style Mcann prefers (very similar to Herbie)
