Fingers crossed
« on May 23, 2025, 08:03:06 pm by Barmby Rover »
We need a good goalie, 3 centre backs, a box to box man (Maybe already here) and two strikers before League one starts. We lost a lot through loans and the turning down of  contracts, Billy can't be relied upon to be main striker all season and other than that we have Ironside.

McCann must wondering where has all his players gone ….. as the preseason will be taken up by introductions from each of the 6-7-8 new players now needed . No an inclination of who is a target or even if any of the previous loans could return .

As I said on here recently, clubs like ourselves always have 6-7-8 players leave and need replacing every season.
Loans go back to their parent clubs, some players move on to better things or for personal reasons.
It happens every season.

What makes our situation worse though is that we're limited to players who have played for us before. Drastically narrows the available field.

We still have the same owner, manager, player of the season, staff, ex prem striker, new training facilities. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the above to remain true.

It seems from your posts that you don’t.

Why do you see a problem in this?  It should happen every season if the club correctly manages its player contracts sensibly.  Think about it... if you don't have a manageable number of contracted players to replace each year then there will come a year when you have a large number to replace.  That's when it becomes a problem.

I really can’t see why people are panicking when this is the last weekend of the season. Probably the only surprise is to loose Joe.
If we want to make any decent challenge in L1 it must have been obvious that the team would need to be strengthened by about at least 5 or 6 players. For this to happen then financially it must have been obvious that we could not retain the number of younger players we have retained in previous years.
Clearly Grant has already addressed this to give him some headroom on recruiting better quality who can realistically fight to be in the game squad.
The first signing appears to have been quality, a young player who was prepared to take a step down, but has proved to have been a quality player for a couple of seasons in L2 (if he doesn’t improve under our management/coaching team it will be real surprise)
The time to panic will be if we have not made any decent signings by the end of next month.

yes we won the league … know what .. weve lost OUR OWN  central defenders who were the backbone of the club  , we loaned  a striker  who was second top scorer also now gone It’s two steps forward and three steps backwards .You give McCann too much credit for this, I thank him also . But his short term views left us needing too many quality replacements when he could have secured those players on longer contracts and if not why not ? as they were vital part of the club . We do not spend on players because of a too tight budget that won’t allow paying players to stay on decent wages . It’s all about the cash L1 is twice as difficult as L2 and if McCann isn’t to get found out , he needs to start talking big and not doing what I except and that is loans will be his main strategy and cast offs signed where he needs gaps filling . Negative possibly but I don’t see any sign of anything and that means he’s waiting for clubs to let players go and no incentives from us . Prove me wrong .

We won’t be signing 2 strikers when we already have 2 strikers and only play a 1 striker formation.

Players come and go at the end of every season.

Do you think the manager/chairman just has to click his fingers and the quality players immediately sign long contracts.?

You’re living in cloud cuckoo land, other that or you are a WUM.

Can’t you just wait and see what happens over the next few months?

Give it a rest you absolute negative tool.

Mcann as already stated he has be conducting zoom meetings and travelling to attend meetings with potential targets.

He isnt gonna put a list of players names out there is he. No manager tells the public and the rest of the football league of their intended targets.

We win a league and you still try to find a reason to beat the club with a stick

It really is fans like you that the club can do without. You claim to support the club but criticise before this season has officially finished.

Can imagine you would lose your shit and start the grant out chants if we fail to win the 1st game of the season

Two centre backs, a right winger and one striker.

That’s the winger sorted. I’d guess that both centre backs will be permanent signings also. Not so sure about the striker. Then we have the keeper who could also be permanent or loan.

For me it’s get as many permanents in as you can this window then assess.

McCann’s recent track record in the January loan market has been much better than in the summer one (Think Yeboah and Tyler Roberts) once he can assess what are the missing pieces.

The risk with summer loans is them getting recalled and loaned to a club higher up mid-season. Faal getting recalled did us a favour but there are plenty of examples of this happening to teams last season:

Markandy at Chesterfield, Lowe at Walsall, Costelloe at Accrington.

We don’t need another midfielder but if we sign one then that must mean either Close or Westbrooke are departing. Or potentially both.

One good addition, there never was any panic about the OP, just speculating on what GM might be chasing, I have no doubt he will be bringing quality in, the latest vid speculates a no.9 and a goalie intimated. Looking forward to the next week or two.

I was chatting to a Leyton Orient supporter earlier today, he was panicking because they have lost the backbone of their team because their loans have ended and he’s doubtful that Wellens will not find the same quality of players that got them to the play off finals at Wembley.

Its the same all over the lower leagues with loans distorting the achievements of clubs who need and want to grow and progress . If there are surpluses in the higher divisions would not make more sense for clubs to affiliate themselves to clubs and make the loans a bipartisan style arrangement where players are given minimum of a season and not subject to a recall  agreement and provide a second season option for under 21s to continue the education and experience as Walsall who were undermined by the parent club Stoke City withdrawing Nathan Lowe after only half a season and who was clearly having a huge influence on results and subsequently their failure to continue.

Not sure what's going on with Westbrooke, he's a decent footballer. I'd like to see him given more of a chance.
