Only 65 years old. He was in the middle of many a Rovers game and was a very good ref. RIP, Uriah.

Edit: apparently only reffed us twice. Could've sworn it was more than that.

Remember him as the ref when we pumped Barnsley 4-0 at Belle Vue, when Doolan smacked in a 25 yarder after getting pelters from their fans all game. He was a ref who managed to avoid becoming one of those who you dreaded seeing on the back of the programme, which in my book makes him pretty good. Rip.

Top man, top referee.  Like has been said, one you'd look forward to officiating.

I don’t think that we ever lost when he reffed us.
I’m sure that someone will come up with the stats.

As good a ref as you could wish for, seemed to get most things right and most importantly, he was great for us. RIP Uriah.

A Great Referee, and a decent person, had many a chat with him when I worked at Sheffield magistrates, I shook his hand one Monday morning, after he had sent two Barnsley players off, when we had won at Oakwell

I remember a pre season game at Worksop.

Me and my mate went by train and acquired a new football on our way with the idea of getting as many signatures we could.  We managed to get a fair few players names, the train driver and a couple of BTP officers.

After the match we bumped into Uriah and asked him to sign the ball.  He was in a fresh crisp white shirt.  Unbeknown to us, the pen that some of the players used hadn't fully dried and as Uriah rotated the ball to find a spot to sign all the signatures came off on his shirt.  He hadn't noticed and we made our excuses and fled.

Top top bloke always up for a chat.

RIP

Only reffed us twice

05/06
League One   League One
10   24.09.2005   Barnsley FC   0:2   Doncaster Rovers   0   0   0   0
04/05
League One   League One
34   22.02.2005   Doncaster Rovers   4:0   Barnsley FC   0   0   0   0

The away one was when they had 2 players sent off and one of them was against Copps who he knocked over the advertising boards

Both were fouls against Copps.

A much respected referee, shame there aren’t more like him.

Sad loss.

Pretty sure he refereed one of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup finals as well.

Remember both games well. Remember when he came to Belle View it was like having a superstar ref officiating.

Just shows how life can change, he always looked very very fit, and was one of a few referees who matched the players getting around the pitch and near the play consequently didn't miss much
Looked all the time to have the respect of the players and no doubt was one of the best of his time.
Also I think he was a martial arts expert away from football which probably helped him have the confidence he showed controlling games.
He will be sadly missed as his life away from football also showed what a gifted person he was.

I don’t think that I have ever heard a bad word said about him.
Unusual in this day and age and unbelievable for a referee.
RIP Uriah and a crying shame that there aren’t more refs of your knowledge and ability.

Yes. He was good. But there have been others...

David Elleray
Jack Taylor
Norman Burtenshaw
Keith Hackett
That little chap Ernie Crawford from Intake

None of 'em were perfect. But these guys were all up there alongside Uriah Rennie

Saw him referee at Frickley. Had a great rapport with the players and the crowd.

RIP Uriah. God bless.
