Bailey Legend
« on August 24, 2025, 01:26:40 pm by northbayviking »
Since first watching Rovers since 1957 , I have seen many players pull on a Rovers Shirt but I am hard pressed to see anyone more consistent and influential than Owen Bailey , Rob Jones comes to mind , Bill Leivers maybe bit I am struggling to think of others who have the all round talents of OB . Please comment on any others who have a similar effect .

I think influential is the operative word. I can't think of many who command such respect from players and fans alike with his leadership qualities and from a relatively young age.

Certainly Rob Jones but he had bags of experience and came to us with those qualities already in place, so I think it's rare that we see the talent blossom before our eyes. Whiteman of course is another who developed whilst with us but even Bailey has an additional X Factor.

Technically, he may not be best player but he brings so much more. If a neutral was to watch him, they'd probably wonder what all the fuss is about but his cumulative effect is unprecedented over the number of consecutive games. His stats must be off the scale.

Bailey is rapidly becoming the Copps of his generation, now that is a real compliment!

Paul green will also be a legend. Stock was always class. Sullivan in goal has to be up there

Owen is not only a very consistent player in all  the positions he is asked to play, he is also a great person & this comes across in bucket loads in his interviews. He is any managers dream player. I hope that he grows with us for many years to come. He is slowly but surely deservedly becoming a club legend.

Im shocked and so happy at the same time how he has never missed a game for us so far, especially after reading he had 500+ days injured before he was released from Newcastle.

I agree with LDR. Ian Snodin. A babe in arms, the physique of a 12 year old, the football brain of a colossus and the influence of a God.

If anybody was better, he'd have to have been Pele, Maradona, Cruyff and Beckenbauer rolled into one. :):):)

Another vote for Ian Snodin.

Scorer, creator, destroyer, dead ball wizard, leader by example. An exceptional talent.

Always felt sorry for Glyn who was all of the above also but being a few percentage points behind Ian he was never quite placed on the same pedestal.

Bails is a special player, no doubt.
He is so good that it is worrying me that a Championship club may well put an offer in for him in January that the club can’t refuse.

Ian Snodin was one of the best players in the country when he went to Everton.
Nails isn’t at that level but is just as important to us.

Speaking of Snods.
I had the fortune to see him playing in a Donny Sunday League team when he was just 12 years old.
He went on as a second half sub for one of the teams and his quality shone like a  beacon.

I was listening to the Not The Top 20 podcast this morning. They picked out Bailey as the best captain in the EFL, justifying it with him always being available to be selected since he joined and playing every single league game, can play in multiple positions, and contributes with goals even though that's not his main job. Can't disagree.

The durability, character, versatility etc is great but I think he’s actually improving as a player quicker than any other player we have…. Possibly with the exception of JM last season.

Bailey could play any of the outfield positions and be our best player in that role. He’s incredibly consistent and his constant availability is huge for us. Great player, and a great leader - if you listen to him in the game he’s constantly encouraging and talking, whenever we’re on the ball he’s saying ‘go on Ben (or whoever)’. We’re very lucky to have him. And he’ll certainly be catching the eye of suitors up the pyramid.

I fear there will be a few clubs enquiring about him in January.
I just hope that no one triggers a release clause or makes an offer too good to turn down.

If he keeps going then we need to be reviewing his contract with a hefty buy out and sell on clause

If he carries on like this then he will be gone either in January or the summer. Players like him should be intrinsic to our business model. Acquire cheap, sell high, reinvest.

We get too emotionally attached to players imo and think they will all do a “Coppinger” and be here forever. It’s ok to love players while they are here and still be prepared to cash in.

One of things that ties Bailey to our club is that we took a chance on him when no one else did, wasn’t he on trial the season before he signed.
Also his family love him playing at Rovers, I’ve even seen them joining in the chant’s especially his mum, I met his grandad at a match last season he said how much he enjoys being here
