At moment in league he’s not a starter but on today’s performance he was no worst than Gibson who again showed when everyone is fit he’s a sub not a starter.

Sure it's happened before though, and they've played.

I've vague memory it happening in a league match and the said player scored against his parent club, possibly winning the game, his parent club manager got some proper grief about it,think the player was out of favour with him, hence loaned out,not sure but think it was championship, possibly Bristol City involved, does anyone else recalled it?

It happened against DRFC. We loaned Ian Duerden to Kingstonian and he was allowed to play against us under Wignall’s management and scored once, possibly twice in win against us at Belle Vue. Rank bloody stupidity and totally amateurish on Rovers’ part.

10 February 2001. Scored both goals for Kingstonian in 2-0 win at Belle Vue. To be fair, we had ten men after Kevin McIntyre sent off in first half.

bloody loved Duerden. Hated Wignall. I was once told in Karisma many moons ago, where Duerden happened to be a regular, that the alleged reason that Wignall refused to pick him was that Duerdens father in law was Stan Ternant and it was alleged that Mr Ternant had once allegedly lamped Mr Wignall. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I loved Ian Duerden. Scored plenty of goals and some important ones for us at that time.

Wasn't he part time and a fireman?

Not heard that before but I was told by a Duerden family member a few years ago that Wignall didn’t like Duerden and that it was personal.

Still can’t get over the rank stupidity of allowing our own player to play against us. Everyone could see what was coming.

I recall the chief exec at the time responding to the crowd reaction that day with a patronising piece in the next match day programme about how it was unacceptable for Rovers fans to turn against their own players, totally misreading the reaction which was very much about Wignall’s treatment of Duerden and the decision to allow our own player to be available to play against Rovers. We all knew he could damage us and he did. Presumably Wignall thought he couldn’t.

Thought Ajayi did a good job of getting in the right positions to be fair. Obviously he hesitated with his chances, and that's what killed him but I think we need to give him more time. He was visibly dissapointed with himself.

He was for a while. Runs an electrical and security alarm company in Norfolk these days.

Duerden is a historic figure for us. That fairly awful first season in the conference was made a huge success by winning what is probably aside from the Yorkshire Electricity Cup, the least credible tournament we have competed in let alone won. Felt like the European Cup though. Belle Vue packed to the rafters. In the long sweep of history before that we had only known defeat but after that we have largely only known success.

I was told by someone very close to the club at the time that the fallout was because Carl Alford came to make a partnership with Ian Duerden…but Duerden allegedly made a partnership with Alford’s wife. No idea if it was true but there was certainly more to him leaving than footballing reasons and it would have at least gone some way to explaining Alford’s struggles.

That 2nd goal was exceptional.

I thought he was dreadful today. Ben Close would have buried that if Ajayi had just slipped the ball to him.

Close made a very clever run which opened up the chance for Ajayi, it was a poor attempt but it happens. He was right to shoot. He’ll come good.

I remember hearing that at the time, perhaps that’s why Alford couldn’t score both on and off the pitch

The lad has talent, and just needs a bit of time and coaching to come really good. That's why Spurs have him tied firmly into their future, we are lucky to have him.
