Let's talk about the Crewe FA cup game
« on October 27, 2025, 01:55:11 pm by selby »
Once again in our usual away day in the cup we come up against our old foe Crewe who are just above half way in league two sitting in 9th position and have won four of their seven home games and have scored 9 goals and had nine against. in their home games this season.
Having watched them v Harrogate, that goal tally is the way I saw that game, decent football side, not that good at the back quite good going forward, and always looking to fall over around the box with the slightest touch trying to buy a free kick or penalty, something we need to be aware of.
On that game if we play well we have every chance of getting through. they like to play possession football from the back, but can be got at and our forward play will be crucial and we need to take the chances if they are there.
We had a good result Saturday and many a unbeaten run has started with a draw, and after a poor run we can now start to build confidence again. Not seeing the game at Reading  and going on others opinion, unless tactical I would try to go with the team at Reading as much as possible, a win important for the supporters as well as a potential money spinner like the Tottenham game  in later rounds.
It's going to be tight, but hopefully an open entertaining game and possibly decided with penalties if a draw, and we owe Crewe one if it does, and would be Crewe's first home draw of the season.
After a three two win against Grimsby Crewe should be confident, and we need to get back to winning ways what do you think?
Lot's of reasons why the game is important to us, and a game in the balance in  which both sides will fancy their chances of a result, and two managers who need a result really. Lots to discuss please have your say.

We have to be very weary of the stoke loanee stuck away a hat against Grimsby and had one cleared off the line, we need to be on our 'A' game if we are to get to the next round, on another note Molly had his best game to date on Saturday so his confidence should have lifted

Gotta go with our strongest team possible. A win would be a much needed boost.

Barring injuries then id start the same team we did at reading,

Listening to Grant interview today he’s says the treatment room is empty every one on the grass.
Sterry is not quite ready for the game. Every one else is available including Clifton and I assume Nixon.
Asked if he would mix it up he said he will be playing a strong side.
So let hope it’s either the side from last week to keep up the improvement or at least maybe Nixon and Clifton replacing Grehan and Close. Middleton or Gibson is another choice.
We can name 9 subs and choose up to 5

every one on the grass.

Doesn't bode for performance levels, but likely a mellow atmosphere around the camp irrespectively.

The cup is never predictable .Crewe are always tough away games and this one could be full of goals , so It’s an opportunity for Oyusanya or Hanlan to start improve and make more of an impression .

Not an easy game, but I have seen them play one of their best games at Harrogate, where the game showed their strengths and weaknesses.
If we relax play the game not the occasion and play well on the front foot we are more than capable of  getting at them and a result.
Like ourselves they struggle with players running at them  Smith a player like molly and Middleton willing to take a man on gave them a hard time and Harrogate were unlucky when a lot of balls into the area were not made better use of.

Rovers should have the capability to beat Crewe, hopefully they are pulling out of the bad form and Crewe will be a stepping stone to better league form. Fingers crossed 0-2

Ref is guy who sent Billy off last season, 50 seconds after he’d come on.

DFP’s predicted line-up:

Lo-Tutala,
Nixon, O'Riordan, McGrath, Maxwell,
Bailey, Crew, Gotts,
Middleton, Hanlan, Molyneux

I hope he’s got no inside information and it’s just a stab in the dark.

I'm only going by McCann's interview, but I reckon Clifton may start tomorrow's game, bolstering midfield.

Here's hoping for a cup run and putting more money into the kitty for future transfers.

Grant said he was going with a strong side that predicted side weakens the team which I have written back to Ricky

My reasoning

McGrath who has been average this season Pearson must play
Crew who Strolls around at league 1 and Wales U21 level Broadbent must play
Gotts only if Clifton is not ready to start.
2 off Middleton Molyneux and Gibson should be okay
Hanlan has shown nothing and really is one of the poor recruitment teams signings Billy should start

It’s FA cup, no video available on Rovers+. There should be a ‘Listen Live’ however that doesn’t appear to be working on Rovers+ for god knows what reason.

Bloody ridiculous! We pay for rovers + and it rarely works. Today there’s nothing, no sound, no apology. If I hadn’t paid for the season I’d cancel my subscription. I certainly won’t renew next year!!

1-0 down after playing some good football but no chances or likely to put ball in the net again
