Looks to me that sharp was knocked off balance and the defender swipes his leg from behind,

Dont think the defender touches the ball but steps over it and scissors billys right leg

Standard Deja vu from Drysdale.

That said we again gave them thev2 chances they took while having several more chances ourselves

More often than not they're given but I can see perhaps why it wasn't.

Absolute stonewaller! Cowardice from the ref.

BUT - our poor recruitment is massively impacting us. Especially in the striker dept.

Pen all day long and you could probably argue for a red card as well.

McCann in the Free Press:

"I don't know why the best striker in the EFL of all time would fall in that moment. If you watch it back their player came through the back of Billy and it's a stonewall penalty and a red card."

Would have been a soft penalty.

Billy missed a great chance just before they scored their second.

He’s not as clinical as he used to be no point banging on about his historical EFL record over the span of 20 years.

I can see why it wasn't given.

It wasn't given because the referee was shite.

Nothing soft about it.

The player came from behind billy knocked him out of balance and scissered his shooting leg.
Didnt get the ball.

Doesnt matter that billy was still trying to get the ball under control.
Anywhere else on the pitch its a freekick without a doubt

It was a stonewall penalty.

That said, we can’t blame the referee. We had 3 gilt edged chances, and 1 arguably slightly less so in the second half and took none.

The better side lost due to not having a clinical finisher up front.

Yes you are spot on, we have watched it over and over again and slowed it down to see if their is any reason not to give it, but it’s exactly has you have said.
It started with their player put his arms into Billy, followed by the scissors action.
Action should be taken against referees when it’s a so blatant mistake, the least action should be that the yellow card for Grant should be rescinded.

He gets the ball doesn’t? Admittedly from a horrible angle.

At that pace, and in such close proximity, I don't think he can physically get the ball without fouling Sharp. You'd get that penalty 9 times out of 10.

Saying that though, we can't be relying on decisions going our way to get a result.

Was unsure at the time and still unsure after seeing the clips, defender does get a touch on the ball but possibly Billy does get a push 1st,but know it would be given for a lot of other home sides

"He gets the ball". Yes quite correct he does but AFTER shoving Sharp in the back. Clear and blatant penalty.

He has hands on him. Billy goes down easier than anyone I’ve ever seen. We see that every week. There was contact, Billy was unbalanced but the defender got a big peace of the ball. Wasn’t a 100% stone walker to me. If he gave it I could see why. He didn’t give it and I can see why. These things are generally not completely black and white IMO.

The defender puts both hands into Billy’s back and shoves him over before he evens attempts to gets the ball.

Correct the defender has hands on Sharp BEFORE the defender touches ball.

Correct the hands on Sharp's back causes him to become unbalanced.

On becoming unbalanced Sharp is falling to the floor BEFORE the defender touches the ball.

Hence it is a penalty. Cast iron.

The defender is the wrong side of Sharp and the only way he gets a touch on the ball, almost accidentally through his momentum on giving the shove, is through fouling the man in the first instance.

It’s a pen for me, all day long. But maybe evens out the first five mins when Sharp gives Shepard a full slap / punch off the ball.

That's a foul anywhere else on the pitch. The defender has pushed Sharp, then at the very, very most generous, cumbersomely made contact with the ball and the player while challenging from behind.

Drysdale gave several softer fouls outside the box today. But he's shite that one.

Give over
That’s given as a pen 99 times out of 100.
Horrendous decision
