I think he deserves his own thread. He’s brilliant. For me, I think only him and Bailey have taken the step up in level in their stride. I think he’s really underrated defensively.

Others have either struggled or taken time to adjust.

Maxwell very good. Bailey over the season has done well, but in the second half today he was well off it. Him and Broadbent lost control.

I would say Sterry & Molyneux have also made the step up, others are still adjusting but will get there

He was excellent today, I really hope he finally gets that run of games now.

Maxwell frustrates the hell out of me, he could be a very very good player, but he doesn’t seem to be learning from his mistakes - over running the ball, playing simple passes poorly and getting caught out of position constantly. - he does so much good stuff and then messes up. He’s ok, but that position is our weakest, and teams know it.

Maxwell is 23 and played 160 games. The odd possession mistake will (and already is) sharpen up and if he stays fit (and it’s a big if), he will be a best of a player. He’s the player in our team currently that could play at a higher level now. I’m not sure any of the others could. Not even Bailey.

You have got to be joking!
Maxwell was excellent today, his workrate was tremendous, and I honestly thought he was our best player today.
Yes I know Gibson scored both goals and therefore deserves mom for that , but he went missing for lots of the second half.
Would be great to see maxwells stats for today.

Thought Sterry was over run today and had a pretty poor game by his standards. My only problem with Maxwell is that when he starts putting performances out like today he normally is out injured for a few games.

Especially in the 2nd when they brought their number 11 on, he was an excellent player

His best game this season. Feel like he's got better defensively. Attacking wise he can be really good or really frustrating

When he had the long spell out injured he often acted as summariser on iPlayer and his contributions showed that he read the game very intelligently.

Incidentally today’s summariser felt that the defence was not covering the flanks when the wing backs went upfield; they left space down the wing which Peterborough exploited to cross the ball unchallenged. Was that apparent to those who saw the whole match?

It’s the fact I can see he could be so good, but constantly makes the same mistakes, and nothing to do with today’s performance Ian.

How many times does he bomb forward making a fantastic run, but then over runs the ball, or make a mindless pass to nobody - it’s very often, and could be so easily worked on and sorted. He has cut out the little I think I’m Messi moments he used to have (in the wrong areas,) so I remain hopeful.

Defensively he doesn’t sense danger enough and bombs on regardless, he got a huge bollocking today in the first half for that, I think it led to the TLT save where he had to come out at the players feet, it definitely led to a chance.
May not be totally his fault as the way Grant plays can be to want his wing backs to bomb on, but he has to learn when he can and can’t.

I really like him as a player btw, but he could be so much better.

Agree I wouldn’t have been pleased with one or two of the pass backs if I’d been on the receiving end.

Maxwell is very good. Keeping him fit is the issue
