Out of possession most teams end up a 442 really don’t they? That’s how it looks a lot of the time to me at least.

Maybe I’ve old fashioned tastes but I still think it works. Teams struggle against 2 centre forwards now and have 2 up there means it’s easier to play forward passes into space.

Everyone thinks you’ll get done in midfield but it’s no different to 4231 with one striker dropping on the deepest midfielder out of possession.

If we want to play 5 sideways passes before trying to go forward then 442 probably isn’t the way.
