I don't think sacking McCann is right. However if I was Bramall I'd be very annoyed at all the money that's been wasted on not even improving the starting 11 1 bit. Absolute crime our midfield 3 still contains Clifton and Broadbent. Both are way off what's needed

All the money????

Where???

Is Pearson on more than Wood and/or Olowu's offer?
Is Grehan on more than Andersons offer?
Is Sharp on more than he was last year?

Hanlan for Ironside, higher wages.

Put on loan with contributions
Flint
Hurst
Westbrooke
Faulkner (now returned)
Straughan Brown
Williams

I cant find where this money has gone

It seems to me as though McCann thought that last years League Two squad would be good enough in L1, and he just needed players in to improve the squad and not the starting eleven. He got that very wrong.

I think thats a fair assumption I hadnt considered........if that is the case then yes, he got it very wrong! The season hinges on Jan.

I think it is partly budget reasons, we have only spent a small fee on Grehan, the rest will all have had an increase in salary too.

We lack pace, height and physicality- this league is very reminiscent of the championship all those years ago with the physique of the players, it’s improved vastly sconce we were last in it.
The problem with it being, 99% of the other teams play in the same way as us, so this is when budget really starts to tell. Those with bigger pockets get the bigger faster more physical players.
This was SODs thoughts, and he said if a club of our stature wants to play at a higher level, we either compete financially, or you find a way to play where you are not reliant on these types of players and style of football.
Like it or not it was a great philosophy and is playing out in front of us now.
I like Grant, I like the rock n roll football, but unless he gets a top end budget I’m not sure we can really compete where most of us want.

That’s an excellent post jmt.

You’ve identified absolutely the fact that the physicality of this division (height, pace, size) has caught Grant & his staff out, let’s not make any bones about that despite those who would come on the site & state physicality has no bearing at this level…..rubbish.

We need first & foremost to do whatever it needs to stay in this division.

Lose Lg1 status & we lose not only this manager (I truly believe worst case scenario he still wouldn’t walk unless ‘pushed’) but if we did the unlikelihood of finding another manager who would move or understand enough about this club to take a step back (yes perhaps again) in order to move it forward.

But we’re not there yet are we, as much as we’re hurting, pointing fingers, doubting.

Keep the faith.

There are managers available. Schumacher, Holden, Buckingham. All with League 1 experience. I wouldn't be booting McCann though.
why are these managers available ?

Why was GM available? Because he was sacked from his last job, just like them.

All managers get the sack at some time in their careers.

Well the brainiacs at the front in the fourth stand were singing for Darren Ferguson! :headbang:  :headbang:  :headbang:
it’s a fact of management that your only as good as your last win .. and that’s too far back now to remember .,I doubt  Ferguson would come back here . But McCann must know that it’s only a matter of time if that decision is not his to make .. excuses are , back to drawing  board , it’s early yet we’re not half way into the season. , there still plenty of game to play .. I have to look at myself ….you pick one McCann has used them all ..

I understand the anger, I don’t agree with booing & abusing your players, but I sort of get it that people are angry. But Darren Ferguson????!!! There are some very short memories out there!!!! I need to take a break from this forum, for my own sanity!  :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

People will be calling for Darren Moore next after he inevitably gets the sack!!

Hell I hope not, he’d give Moly and Bailey away.

I think he’ll stay because of what has happened in the last two Januarys. Whether they are relevant to this discussion now is up for debate.

McCann is much more of a promotion charge manager than a relegation battle one (see his time at Hull). The second half of his first season back (23/24), I wouldn’t class as that because our budget was not near the bottom of L2 despite where we were in Jan pre-Sutton Ironside penalty.

If we’re changing mid-season then Jon Brady could be an option. Someone like Bloomfield may be out of reach but would be nice.

What is impossible for us to say is whether someone else could get more out of the players because aside from Hanlan, no one is in their prime with L1 experience. Even he then is usually a squad player wherever he has been.

Then the next question is -  Is no one else better placed than McCann to identify the problems? Or can he not see the wood for the trees and the situation is in need of a fresh set of eyes with different methods?

But then he probably already has targets lined up for January. Sacking him could mean we have to start that all over again and join the back of the queue for players.

It’s not simple!

It’s style as well though. A manager who wants to be tight at the back and compact in midfield would get more out of us than one who wants to just go hell for leather.

It’s like Crystal Palace having the same players but instead of being pragmatic just going for it wide open every game. They’d end up in a relegation battle. Hope Grant drops a few principles and concentrated on results for a bit

Pragmatism is required especially for the next away games. We need to stop conceding stupid goals and stay in games. Its not how Grant wants to play but its what we need right now. Especially away from home.

Absolute joke we start with Broadbent and Clifton every game. When last year most midfields centrally were better than them in league 2.
