Wembley or Survival

If you had to pick one, what would you choose? Survival in league one this season or a chance to win the EFL trophy at Wembley.

It has to be both. We’re not talking about an 18 game champions league campaign - there’s a couple more games before Wembley. We need to be taking the next round very very seriously. Players and fans don’t get many chances for a trip to Wembley. Got to go for both full throttle now.

I have never seen rovers at Wembley (wasn’t living in the country in 2008) and by the same score, that’s nearly 20 years ago which suggests it’s a such a rarity. Relegation would be bad, but I’d edge my bets we’d be in the top 3 the following season.

No brainer survival all day long, over a pointless egg cup

I agree with the sentiment Upton, it is a no-brainer - longer-term sustainability over short term excitement.

However, I think the one thing can lead to the other - JPT victory in 2007, playoff final victory 2008? A trip to Wembley will bring in loads more fans, loads of buzz round the club and help us keep building. But I agree, all that's for nothing if we go down.

But let's be greedy and have both!

Would we really take many down to Wembley for an EFL cup?

Didn't we take 20k to Cardiff for the JPT v Bristol Rovers, I reckon we would match that at Wembley.

It was a much more respected competition then though wasn't it. Still think we'd take a few to Wembley if we got there though

Less than 10k would go. We'd be lucky to get 20k in a playoff.

Our form in the Vertu trophy need to be carried over , as players who have taken part may not always be regulars , it does show that we have players who relish the opportunity of not having to compete for league positions, it’s this mindset that need to be seen as lack of confidence in getting results in the league. With the new influx of player bolstering our goal scoring , I can see a final in the wings , though a possibility of a playoff  place may well be too far off , but if the confidence returns and results improve our League 1 place should not be a concern. We’ve done it before !!!

The league is obviously more important and survival in league 1 is priority, but I think it would be great to have another trip to Wembley, not just from a fans perspective, but the club financially would benefit. Get more money into the coffers for the summer and new signings.

Staying up more important to me but don’t see why they would be mutually exclusive. We have such a big squad that we’d be able to manage a fixture pile up, but there are only a couple of games left in the competition so it’s not exactly a concern. A trip to Wembley is always special and there’s a whole generation who have never experienced it so would be great for them.

Seem to remember there was a thread a while back where a fair few people talked about boycotting/not having gone since PL teams entered the competition. I know a few others who feel the same; would be interesting to see how many remain as principled with the prospect of a Wembley trip. Got to get through the quarters and semis first though!

Wembley for me. In 20 years time, who would remember a season when we almost went down and were crap in the league? Not half as many who would remember a Wembley trip in a cup final.

We're due a Wembley/Final game again anyway.
