Even if we gat another centre half I would play him alongside Bailey, or was ie a coincidence we kept a clean sheet and won a game with him in the central defensive position.
If the new central defender has not got pace, then we will be no further on than the last few months.
We desperately need some pace at the back to compete at this level with attackers much more mobile and willing to take defenders on and isolate them into a one on one situation their lack of pace cannot cope with.
id say gotts have a lot to do with this. Hes class

The problem with Hanlan is that we continue to play a game that in no way appeals to his strengths. He is totally wasted if we continue to shove long balls up to him and expect him to win them with his back to goal. Not going to happen. That is clearly more the game of our man Francis. If he is fit, I would start Francis through the middle and Hanlan out wide. That's a much better use of resources.

Our man Francis was good today. A real handful for them and some good touches. Brutal finish also. Think he can be a real asset for us.

Yep thought he did very well today. Massive downgrade when he was replaced by Hanlan that’s for sure.

Will have to repeat this again. It is absolutely pointless playing Hanlan with his back to goal. Worse than pointless as we always lose possession. Either play him through the centre and put balls in front of him, or play him out wide. Moment he goes in the centre and McGrath starts launching huge balls at him, your heart just sinks. Play Francis if you want to do that. Don't expect Hanlan to do anything productive in that position.

Weather you agree or not, I’ll die on this sword but McGrath should be no where near this squad, at fault for first 2 goals today, weak in the first challenge for the 1st goal and hod awful positioning for the 2nd

He’s been at fault for so many and we need a better cb pairing. On that note, grehan is also mistake prone and needs more game time in the national league before he gets a chance at our squad.

I do look at Grehan and think exactly that. He needs a good loan spell at a decent level. We can't afford to have him out of the squad given the options we have, but he looks permanently undercooked. He's not really played much proper football at all anywhere and League One is a decent level.

Why did McGrath celebrate in front of the Wigan fans like that? It was a bit strange and to be honest, it looked a bit tinpot.
He does like to give it the “big un” for someone who’s been mostly rubbish this season.

If we’re determined to play a left footer at CB (that can be the only reason he’s playing) Senior should play there and get Maxwell back in left back. Having Senior and McGarth on the same side is just very weak and a lot of goals, in fact all 3 yesterday, come down there.

Grehan looks scared of the ball. Not sure what’s happened to him but we can’t be playing him or McGarth. Both need to play games at a level they are comfortable with to get confidence back. Imo sign a new CB and loan them out to national league.

That could work but we’ve then got two very modest sized centre backs.

Bailey wins more clean headers than all our 6ft + players. Ideally we sign a new CB to play alongside Bailey but it’s better than what we are doing now.

Bailey judges the flight of the ball so early. That’s why he’s pretty good in the air.

We have a player on the books with some great heading duels won stats in division 2 if you check.

It’s crazy how many pro players can’t judge it well. Frankie up top has all the physical attributes to be a monster in the air but from what I’ve seen he’s like Hanlan and doesn’t get anywhere near it. Good at other things though

I had nightmare memories of Halifax Town at home in the early 90’s I think. 3-0 up at half time and lost 4-3. And you could feel the defeat coming too.

Thought this as well. Sharp does it but he's earned the right to do it as much as he likes because he is Billy f**king Sharp.

It was a weird celebration for someone who's been garbage all season and hadn't scored prior to yesterday. Said it all season he should be nowhere near the starting eleven.

He’d just scored his first senior goal for his hometown club, I suspect it wasn’t planned and very in the moment.

I wondered that too but later I thought , did the Wigan lot give him grief for (what looked to me on Half way) pulling his head out / totally missing the much easier looking chance in first couple of minutes

I was guessing they were giving him some stick so when he scored he gave them some back and holding his ears seemed to confirm that

If it had been my first goal at home I would have run back to Half way to celebrate
