Penalty shout
« on March 10, 2026, 09:59:28 pm by Lesonthewest »
On Clifton, there looked enough of an arm pull to prevent him getting to the ball, ref bottled that for me.

A complete and utter joke as I pointed out on another thread before the game

Reffed us v Mansfield and someone commented he Reffed the game using a set of Rules known only to him. ( If you weren't there tonight he did exactly the same )

And as for 4 minutes added time it should have been a minimum of 7 surely. A goal , Subs , keeper taking forever each goal kick , and oh yes of course the Keeper laid out with a fake injury as well

Ref ? Pathetic !

I reckon if it's the other way round, they'd have given it.

You mean the Ref would favour the " big" team ???

You bet he would just as not sending off the Plymouth player for a terrible challenge on Saturday

Actually I was desperate for us to take the lead ( go 2 1 up ) to see when Zander took goal kicks at 30 seconds or more how long it would take the " so called independent Ref " to whip out a Yellow for time wasting

It was also said near me that if we had been winning at 90 minutes the added time would have been the 7 or 8 it should have been , but of course we'll never know for sure

One of the worst time wasting teams I’ve ever seen.
The Ref was just as bad, strolling about, taking ages to get into ‘position’ after giving us free kicks, then a long pause before finally blowing the whistle.

How do we ever expect to see this time wasting improve if the referees are so reluctant to enforce it. That was some of the worst last night. What an abject display from a club down from the Championship, matched by an utterly spineless performance from the referee.

I didn’t think he was actually that bad last night apart from the pen appeal although I was at the other end, can’t do anything really if the keeper goes down and yes they was time wasting but he did book 2 for it,a lot of other refs would of just let them carry one doing it

What happened to the 8 second rule for goalkeepers? Didn't this referee get the memo?

Next time there's a referees meeting,  don't announce publicly, though you've been invited, that you're not going because "nothing will change".

Go, press some flesh, make suggestions and comments, schmooze, butter people up, because why not?

What's to lose, what was you doing then that was far more important?

Little things can make a difference.

I'll bet Grant goes to the next one, as he should as a representative of the club.

Yes I noticed that during the game, he was very slow.
Also he seemed to be taking very short strides when measuring at free kicks, for one in the first half he only took 9 steps.

He was erratic with the strides for Free Kicks. He did 7 and a half for one of the first and as many as 11 ( but those 11 still looked below 10 yards )

Late on he measured one , then there was a skirmish which he waded into. The foam had gone , the Luton players had advanced and he measured again and somehow arrived at a different number of yards which by a massive coincidence fell exactly where they had crept forward to

When he Reffed us at Mansfield someone said on Rate the Ref " he Reffed to his own set of Rules which nobody but him knew "

A man who doesn't post on here , said he was the worst Ref we'd had all Season

Personally I thought he was ( or looked ) way out of his depth and again I would love it absolutely love it if we could see the Assessors Report , but of course they must be kept secret I guess

5minutestogo, would you please forward a copy of the laws of the game where it says holding and pulling an arm softly is not a direct fee kick and therefore a penalty.
Stop listening to catch fraises on match of the day from old players who spent a career cheating themselves and are happy for others to get away with it unless it is against the top sides where they go the opposite way and highlight the offence. and want a free kick.
I never heard the fraise "not enough in it" until the last few years, I have heard a referee some years ago say to a player" don't you think so, you stand out of the box and watch him take it"

Best one was their keeper caught the ball in his ‘midriff’ an obvious catch then placed the ball on the floor and then picked it up again, right on his near post. I did not think keepers could put the ball down and pick it up again.

Just watched on the extended highlights, I had left by then to get the car back to the stadium to pick somebody up. Their defender has a tight hold of Harry's arm, and a bit of his shirt as well. Definite penalty, but never with that ref, a complete idiot.

Plain and simple. If clifton was the defender and not the attacker then it would of been blown for a free kick. Happens all the time.

Odoffin literally dropped to the floor under mininal contact because he realised he had been caught with ball in a dangerous area twice, and both times the ref gave the free kick.

Definite penalty.

What's that now, that we've had turned down this year? 6? 7? And nearly every one has cost us points. We could, and arguably should be a comfortable midtable side.

The keeper definitely seemed to catch the ball and then had a thought “I’ll pretend I haven’t caught that”
They were everything that law changes should eradicate - the ref a legend in his own lunchtime.
I’m still seething at the amount of additional time played absolute joke

Yeah, they’re strawberries that grow on trees in France. When ripe they fall off and have to be caught, hence ‘catch fraise’
The ‘catch fraise’ festival in August is a big thing around Marseilles.

It was not a penalty imho. Clifton is a canny lad and had clearly worked out that all you had to do to win a foul from this ref was to sit down if a defender touched you. Unfortunately the rule was only applied in favor of Luton.

Clifton felt the contact and went down. There would be ten penalties a game if every touch in the box was penalised. Not saying you're wrong to appeal but I'd be aggrieved if that was given against one of our defenders.

In the one close-up angle I saw it looked like Clifton might have been hanging on to the defender's shirt - I don't think he was btw.  If that was the angle the ref saw it's easy to see why he wouldn't give the foul in Clifton's favour.

I assume you're also keeping track of all the penalties opposition teams should have had against us but that weren't given?
