Very near perfect set of results today, added time goal for Blackpool just took the edge off it.

I'd say that goal puts very short odds on the bottom 3 being all but down.

We still need points imho.  Yes 50 may prove to be enough in due course, but it will be better when we have a few more.

I’m going for 60+

I highly doubt it. I'd be amazed if we aren't already safe by 3-4 points.

By the way, because Exeter still have to play Blackpool and Burton,  the absolute maximum points that the 4th bottom can now get is now 60. That would require Exeter to win every remaining game, and Blackpool and Burton to win every one except the defeats to Exeter, as well as other clubs picking up significant points, such as Wigan winning 5 of their last seven, Orient winning 3 and drawing 2 of their last 7 etc.

Sorry to be pedantic, BST, and I'm not particularly good at stats or maths, but can't Exeter still attain 61 points?

Rovers still have to travel to Exeter.

If Rovers lose that game then Exeter would just need 4 points in their other remaining 5 games to overtake our current position in the league which is very achievable.

The teams from 16th-20th need less than a point per game to get to 50 points. They should be expected to do this.

Therefore if we lose every game from now until the end of the season (as unlikely as that seems on current form) we will most probably be relegated.

Rovers aren't safe yet. Almost but not quite there.

Ah, I've got it now. If Exeter finish on 61 points, they won't be in the bottom 4.

I said I'm not much good at stats and maths.

I'd have a reasonably large bet that the team finishing 4th bottom doesn't get 50 points.

Yep that's it. If Exeter win every match, that means they have to beat Blackpool. So Blackpool could only get another 15 points and would end up going down with 60 points.

All academic of course but a bit of fun

Not really a ‘bit of fun’ though given it doesn’t involve our club.

Unless you’re a bit ‘sad’ & running out of ideas as to how to ‘see out the season’?

I think we're safe if we don't lose to Exeter a week on Monday. Lose our next 2 and we're dragged back in it

It is more fun than a lot of topics on this forum and is about football.

There's a huge difference psychologically between surviving by the skin of our teeth or comfortably being nearer mid table.

I really hope we play every remaining game like it matters otherwise the players will have job on proving to us they are actually good enough for this level.

At 3 points per win, we know only too well the picture can change so quickly as Padge points out.

Mansfield, Orient, Burton, Wigan & Blackpool, who refuse to lie down, are all capable of surpassing 50 points, while Exeter stopped the rot with a draw yesterday. Quite possibly, our match with them could be decisive.

I would love it if we could go on to finish above Barnsley.

Tough game next week against Mansfield who are unbeaten in 6 and will want to make sure they are are safe which might suit rovers.

Out of all the remaining games reading at home will be tough as they are fighting for the playoffs but looking at the rest they are all games we are capable of taking points from

Also helps for recruitment for next season anyone looking and seeing we only survived by one or two points thinks we could be down there next season but if we finish say five or six of the players off place that changes the mind set of the player joining

Based on our own current form (4th over the last 4 games) and where we are currently in the table, I don't see why anyone is remotely considering that we could go down.
Just a shame Bradford have done so much better than us after both being promoted.
We need more astute signings this summer and not a repeat of last summer.

Yeah the January signings along with players finding form and more of a settled side has got us through this , for me Grant needs to play a more settled 11 but players need to grasp the opportunity more next season

Street waa lauded as a 'statement signing' and Gotts thia season came highly recomended, I agree both are the standout players who have made a difference.

Apologies I was more referring to them being played in their best position being found out by accident. Street started out on the wing for us. Gotts number 10 until the latter half of the season
