This forum, a positive post.

After reading a negative post got me thinking about this forum and the people on it and whats said etc etc.

I've been on this forum 17 years now and I've met some top blokes at the Rovers thtough this forum. Some I met years ago who were local to me, RobTheRover, Redbrez, both great lads and I stand with Redbrez and his mates and always have good banter.
Silent Majority I've known years, a devoted supporter who's done so much for us lot behind the scenes.
I see Hound before every match and we always have a quick catch up.
Philsky, met him a couple of times and is a proper lovely bloke and I like to see his posts on twitter.
Only met GazLaz face to face two years back but we now have a drink before every match, meet up for away games and message regularly.
I've arranged Santa is a Rover day with Bailey and Matty, another two diehards.
ArkseyRover another class bloke and love a catch up when I service his stove.
BST who I haven't met, we’ve had strong words on the forum but have messaged privately and been cool with each other.
There's probably more but the point I'm making is that for all the arguing, baiting and pretty much making dicks of ourselves, this place actually brings people together.
So that's a good thing, right?

That’s a great post Nudga.
To back up what you say, Donny Wolf is a mate of mine and a couple of his pals are posters I have had “online battles” with on the forum but Wolfie is convinced that if I was to meet the same people face to face, we would all get on really well.

On the whole, it's a good place to discuss our passion for Rovers, would it have stood the test of time otherwise? I tend to self filter, & scroll past a lot of stuff. We're all different, with our own opinions, some folk are naturally more positive or negative than others, we can all be different behind a keyboard, but then again you hear different perspectives in the ground too.
All Rovers, aren't we?

Agreed, and I think that sums up football tbf. There aren't many things in life that unite people of all ages, beliefs and personalities like a football club does. Lots of people love films, music, literature etc, but if they like different genres to others they won't bond in the same way whereas Rovers fans of all ages can still converse Rovers. They can talk about their favourite players, goals, away days, kits and its still massively relevant and interesting to the other party.

I was thinking the same myself yesterday after reading some political posts. The VSC posters that I have met over the years have all been good lads and a pleasure to talk to. It made me wonder if half of the arguments on the forum either wouldn’t take place or at least be far more civil if posters had met in the Belle Vue Bar on previous occasions.
Having a different opinion doesn’t mean that you can’t agree to differ without falling out or name calling.

Good post Nudga, hope you're keeping well.

I've not been on here for many a year, and it's good to see alot of the old posters still around.

I know in my previous incarnation on the forum, there was no love lost between myself and some other posters, but I think we can all say we all want the best for the club.

I stopped attending for matches for several years, but have had a season ticket in the South Stand since McCann returned and have loved (almost) every minute of it.

…“Only met GazLaz face to face two years back but we now have a drink before every match, meet up for away games and message regularly”…

First time I read that I was certain it said ‘massage’, which was a bit of a surprise.

Had some good chats over the years at away games in particular which often leads to an exchange of this forum’s usernames. Remember an away game at Hayes when I met The Red Baron, Herman Hessian and some lads from the south whose names I don’t see anymore, including Ananotherthing (who turned out to be the helicopter pilot who dropped the ball in at the Rushden FA Cup game), Red Wizard and Singing Postman.

I would like to add another aspect.I was born 80 odd years ago and loved lived  in Dunsville , Hatfield , Dunscroft and Wheatley Hills before leaving for Uni in Wales in 1963 . After Uni I lived in London for two years , married a London girl  and we left the U.K. in 1968 and have lived abroad ever since. My DRFC ties are secure thanks to this forum, to YOUR informative posts and to my RTID DNA.
I thank you all for the important link you provide ..Many expats are linked to their homeland through football .

I recently saw on Facebook a team sheet for a match between Yorkshire boys and London boys. I did see your name and also a left back from Doncaster whose name I didn’t recognise. Yorkshire boys had an M. McNeil who I imagine was Mick McNeil from Middlesbrough and London boys had a K. Shillitoe (Chelsea) and a J. Greaves (Chelsea?)
Does it bring back happy memories Brian?

No Brian, I remember Tony playing a few games for the first team. This was a name that I had never or couldn’t remember hearing. I’ll try and find it on Facebook.

Hi Brian, I found it. John Meredith was number 11 and a G. Johnson was number 3. It was 26/03/55. Yorkshire boys played in blue shirts and white shorts. I don’t know how to attach a picture of the team sheet. You probably played against a lot of the others from Dearne Valley and Rotherham Valley.
