Once again other results have gone our way. Nice to see our friends from Oakwell getting a late equaliser!

Annoyingly if we had won would have been 12th and only 9 points off playoffs

Just as before when we came into Lg.1 from being champions, we needed to recruit a striker at the end of the season and we signed Paul Heffernan. £125,000 at the time a club record and worth every penny. That is the sort of recruitment we need in the summer, Heffs would have scored yesterday, and if not would have set somebody else for it. I don't think we need worry about play off places, Stevenage, Lincoln and Reading will see to that, but neither do we need to worry about relegation, we can pick a few points out of the last few matches that will make us safe. Not a bad start to a season where we made our place in the division safe, but have the potential to kick on next season, I'm looking forward to it.

It is very hard to find a regular goalscorer at League One level, at least without spending big money.

I should say btw that Rob Street has scored 8 league goals this season for an outstanding side, while Hanlan has scored 5 league goals playing for a side that has struggled for much of the season. As 2 of the 8 league goals that Street has scored were penalties, both players have pretty the same return from open play in league games. Factor in that Hanlan (16) has started less than half the league games Street has started (35) then those numbers look even closer. I am sure Street has started out wide this season but so has Hanlan at various points.

That aside, our bigger issue is that we don't seem to know what type of player we want. And that we have as a back up striker a player who is coming to the very end of his career and cannot any long manage the intensity of being a starting player.

We have made poor decisions in both recruiting and then playing our central striker. We can make a lot of headway by signing even an average League One player who fits with our preferred set up.

What we do need is pace for the front 3 moly works hard for the team but cannot get by one on one, haks can see a pass but hasn't done anything going forward, middleton has been the biggest disappointment.
