They can cut in but not always choose to do so. There will be plentyof good defenders that will stop who they are marking. Mccann is just opening up the opportunity to do both.

Im not sure but I seem to remember Mccann talking about our own full backs like there was data that most goals come from cutting inside, Stop them coming inside, that possibly is why he plays reversed to give positive % to chance based on data. Not that he asks them to come inside constantly

Zero minutes for Glenn Middleton in two games since Grant said this.

Middleton, as the only winger signing in the summer, would have to go down as one of the main signings of the summer, and he’s added nothing. Very disappointing.

Doesn’t bode well for our Scottish scouting network!

He's the most consistent deliverer if high quality crosses from 1-on-1 standing starts with a full back that I've ever seen play for us. If he gets 1-on-1 with the full back, 50% of the time he puts in an excellent outswinging cross around the front of the 6 yard box.

That's pretty much his sum contribution, and it is very odd that we sign a player who can do that so well and consistently, but we don't have a centre forward who is a natural feeder on those chances.

I was surprised when we signed Middleton for the very reason that he has always been a winger who goes to the line and crosses, rather than a winger who generally cuts inside (which is the type of winger Ive always felt Grant prefers).

I still believe Middleton is a very good player but I don't ever see him flourishing in a Grant team. Really strange signing IMHO based on all that.

Suspect he will be away back north of the border in the summer.
