I told him my kit consists of an old iPad and an outdated sequencer that isn't supported anymore. Instead of worrying about it kit, my efforts have gone on YouTube tutorials and trying to learn some music theory. He was quite impressed with that

I was telling the story to my mate Calvin. I've always been a creative but in the visual side of things. Anyway, one day we had a group training day, which I always treat as a bit of a jolly really, not expecting to learn owt. To start off with they asked us to fill in quite a long in depth questionnaire. Then there were some teamwork exercises. At the end of the day they went through the results of this questionnaire. The guy takes me to one side and he tells me, you're in the wrong job! You're not a visual creative. Then he asked me a question, which I wish I could remember and he says, you looked to the side when you thought about that. A visual creative would look up. Music is your thing!... So, that was a turn up.

It was then that I started taking an interest in making music just as a hobby. I've always been a huge music fan but I never got on with it at school, I absolutely hated the idea of performing infront of people. I preferred drawing.

If it is a scam, he's a very sophisticated scammer indeed, who is prepared to talk for a long old time about music, without trying to get any details from me. I've noticed since he started following me, the number of plays my tune is getting has gone up.

And finally it does turn out to be an attempted scam. Quite sophisticated how it was done. The guy kept me engaged for ages talking about music and he was very knowledgeable. He is also very knowledgeable about Calvin Harris because I tested him.

Finally he made his move but he got nothing out of me and no significant data. My phone number but that's the kind of contact anyone could get and that's it.

In the end then I've wasted his time, reported him to SoundCloud and the Police.

He really had me going for a while. It was when money came up, I knew what he was up to. He wanted me to donate to a charity, if I did that he was offering to send me his old kit. He got a bit desperate in the end, even telling me he never pressured me.

So there it is, if it's too good to be true it probably is.

What I don't understand is when you click on his profile, he's got Calvin Harris music uploaded there, with hundreds of thousands of plays,bad you'd expect. I've no idea how he's done that.

If you were a young aspiring musician, this fella was very plausible. I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't taken people for money.

The thing that actually kept ne hanging on was that I knew James Blake used to post on music socials and interact with other aspiring musicians. In my mind I was thinking this isn't impossible just improbable.

It's a minefield.

No, judging by the panic at the end of the communication, I think it was a decent con man.

In the end I wasted his time for 3 hours, got him chucked off SoundCloud and reported him to the Police and probably forced him to get a new SIM. Not the outcome he was hoping for.

It's currently getting a rating of 82% on Repost Exchange, so people seem to like it. The last one was hitting 97% for a long while and now it's at 90%. Almost everyone who hears it seems to like it.

Yes, I think BST may have been right. They could have used AI to string me along and then stepped in with the con. Certainly the tone of the conversation changed quite abruptly.

If you were a kid putting out your music, and this bloke comes along and says he's someone you admire and then says he wants to help you and it all sounds credible, then it's dangerous.

As far as legitimate interactions go, my current top listener is in Queens. Queens, New York City. I've also had a nice comment from someone in Chicago. And someone 10 miles from the centre of Detroit was repeatedly listening to a track. It's amazing for me, to see it, I've been listening to music from those cities from so long. I get quite a kick of seeing my stuff being heard over there.
