Stiff uphill final four furlongs. In Five furlong races low numbers in the draw are preferred.
Parking in field directly opposite stand ,plenty of room.
Nice course and you can see the horses parade before the race.
Plenty of hull fans in evidence

It’s a lovely venue and only a five minute walk from the town centre.
They encourage you taking a picnic and you can sit next to the car and watch the races if you want.
They sometimes have a few acoustic artists playing at one end of the stand near the bar.

Really nice viewing track. Racing is usually of ordinary standard but competitive. A low draw is definitely an advantage in big fields up to a mile.

Lovely course, good viewing from the stands. Free parking across the road.
The land by the course which leads into the town, called The Westwood is claimed to be the oldest area of Common land in England and is worth a stroll round to see the Black Mill.

I was once cycling through that common land and there was a lad playing a set of drums. He was good but a most bizarre site!

As an aside….
If you ever get the chance to go to Chester races, then ffs dont!
I went to the May meeting a few years ago.
Cost a fortune to stand on a concrete concourse.
The huge marquees everywhere made it impossible to see all but the last half furlong, if you were lucky. The ‘big screen’ was tiny.
It was packed with people who just seemed to want to get as drunk as possible.
Their in-house Tote facility paid out peanuts.
Horrible experience.

Chester Races Where You Can Watch for Free on the City Walls
Chester Racecourse, also known as the Roodee, is a historic flat racing venue located in Chester, England. It is recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest operational racecourse in the world, dating back to 1539. The racecourse covers 65 acres and is situated on the banks of the River Dee. Chester Racecourse is relatively compact, being one of the smallest significant flat racecourses in England, measuring just 1 mile and 1 furlong (approximately 1.8 km) in length. It can accommodate around 30,000 spectators, with various viewing options including three grandstands and access to Chester’s ancient city walls, which provide free views of the races.

I’ve done 58 out of the 59 uk courses and Beverley is in my top 5. If you drink, go on the train and make a proper day of it as there’s a load of pubs in a square.

I do drink but hardly any at the races, I go to for the day out , to enjoy the sport and the occasion, saying that I never have and never will go anywhere like The Derby, Grand National, Cheltenham.
Same as years ago I chance to the FA Cup final, Man Utd v Everton , Kevin Moran etc.

Which one are you missing Rupe?
I’ve been to many but nowhere near 58.
Ponte is my favourite course. Friendly staff, good viewing a great atmosphere and a decent standard ie not packed with Class 6 races.

So far it’s 4.30 pm on the Monday, no winners out of the 5 races, my mate’s had 3 !!
So I’m on the favourite now , an ex Rovers player from back in the day Freddy Robinson, a full back with a dodgy moustache

I sae that match too Tommy.

Wasn't it an evening match? Watford had a little bloke , in midfield (?) who ran the entire game. Can't  think of his name atm sadly. We got spanked. And the next season Watford scored six.  Saw that one too....

Yes I too witnessed the 5-1. Saw Elton arrive and he was sat just behind me and jumped up shouting 3 , 3 Three or higher of course each goal

Fred's shot was an absolute rocket.

I was speechless at the hammering way home until one of cars passengers asked what I thought. " Horror of horrors " was my reply and from that day he started calling me "Horror"

After a few weeks he refined it to Big Horror then begorrah. Not seen him for 5 ish years and when he claps eyes on me he will 100pc shout " are you still going to games begorrah"

Taunton. Did have it in the calendar once and the meeting got called off but intending to go 30th December and toast it off with a bottle of champagne to complete the 59/59.

I do like Ponte as well, it’s one I would go to again and again. Wetherby, Thirsk, York… all the more local ones are brill. Catterick is a shit hole but i’ve always done well betting there so I can allow them it.

Ascot my favourite definitely. Chelmsford (shutting) and Yarmouth (think it was just a bad service day) would be bottom of the list. Never known a more up itself place than Chelmsford racecourse.

The Scottish courses are good, if you haven’t done them yet. Musselburgh and Kelso especially. I’ll be doing multiple visits to both over next however many years.

Only been to Ascot once and that was a lifetime ago.
Been to the Cheltenham festival a few times and enjoyed it as I’ve come back mostly with my pockets full. It’s like a mosh pit though.
Agree about the local tracks, Ripon is a good day out.
My least fav, as I said, is Chester by a long mile but wasn’t keen on Yarmouth either, bleak and run down, but that was years ago so might have picked up.
Haven’t been to Kelso or Hexham, plan to go up there later this year.

Beverley yesterday was my 12th in England, but Ive been to Down Royal and Downpatrick in N.Ireland, both very nice but slightly preferred Downpatrick as it’s smaller and more homely. I went to Dundalk over the border a few years ago for a night meeting, not many people there as it was a Friday night and Dundalk FC were at home. It was the first time I had seen floodlight horse racing, it was ok but I won’t be rushing back.

I can see why Chester might not be liked. I didn’t mind it but I got the sense it could be a bit hit and miss. I got it on a hit day clearly.

Hexham is beautiful, got a pub at the parade ring and views of the hills. Real community feel to it. You’ll love it. It’s the total opposite of Chester.

I intend on making a start on the Irish tracks from 2027. Apparently great value. Really want to do Leopardstown festival and Punchestown festival when I tick those 2 off rather than a single race day.

We’ve got the Dublin pre-season to come this summer so hopefully can sneak 1 tick in while over there!

I quite like Southwell under the lights and Mrs T loves it. We go regularly in the winter, its very quiet though.

Never considered the Irish tracks, something  to think about!
