Never felt prouder of being a Donny fan

Bailey's interview yesterday was just the encapsulation of everything football is about.

Reminded me of the quote by Albert Camus.

"All that I know most surely about morality and obligations, I owe to football"

Great lad.

Playing 168 games in the last three seasons and nearly every minute in the league in those seasons is a super human effort. Especially for a player that is a high intensity running, duel winning, box crashing midfielder. Sensational effort.

Who holds the record for consecutive league starts?

Bert Tindill, at 139. Owen Bailey is now at 138.

What about Billy saying "we'll be lucky to hang onto him"

Bert Tindill was an outfield player.

Bert Tindill was a boyhood favourite of mine.He played 402 games for us and scored 122 goals was  an inside  forward but sometimes right wing ..Gregg , Makepeace ,Graham ., Brown , Patterson , Teasdale , Mooney , ,  McMorran , Jeffrey , Walker
I was proud of that team as I am of this .

It says a lot about Owen that the best day of his life was all about trying to help someone else achieve something.

It’s easy to forget that he’s only been here three years. He was already the heartbeat of the club after two.

That's basically the team I watched as a kid, Graing, with just 2 changes. Brown and Patterson had gone. In their places were Paddy Gavin and Charlie Williams.

Owen is our Bryan Robson.
Apart from the injuries, or lack of. His game time is phenomenal, especially after his serious injury. What an inspiration to the rest of the team.

Im hoping that he wasnt emotional because he knows its his last game for us and it is purely because of the emotion around billys last game and how it went.

There's a strange indestructability about Owen Bailey, I am beginning to wonder if he is actually human.

He seems pretty excited about beating the consecutive games record.

I'll always remember the absolute shock when Greeny left us a week after our historic Wembley win. Nothing would surprise me after that. The most important thing for the majority of footballers is earning potential, loyalty is a rare commodity (Copps aside).

Been fortunate enough to speak to Bails a couple of times, he is genuinely one of the nicest fellas you could ever meet. I wish he would still be here for ten more years!

Unfortunately Grant mentioned likely interest in him and Mols, Billy just said we will be lucky to keep him. These things surely bubble away in the background before moves are made.

The season he has just had will have someone getting their wallet out.

I’m not convinced Baileys emotional interview was just about Billy I’m afraid.

Even Coppinger got off the bus to Yeovil to go and play for Sean O'Driscoll, though admittedly there were other factors.

I thought we were going to lose him in January, but consider it’s odds on we will lose him now.
Whilst I will be hugely disappointed, I will also be really pleased for him if he manages to get a rewarding contract. He has to think about his financial future, particularly given that his career took such a knock and given his age this has vastly reduced his career on high wages.
He takes some hard knocks in every game he plays, and given this his game time is absolutely tremendous, but doubt his body will take this to play on till Billy’s age.
If he does leave I wouldn’t be concerned about the money we would receive but just hopes he goes to a decent club who will look after him.
We can’t predict what will happen over the summer, but does not look good.

If Owen is to leave it can only be for two reasons I’d say. To play at a higher level or for higher financial gains. Either way I wouldn’t begrudge him that , he’s been outstanding for us and has earned any chances that come his way. As a huge fan I really hope he stays. Personally I don’t think many if any championship clubs will come calling. So more likely a move will be to a big budget league one side looking to challenge for the top spots. If that is the case and we as a club rate him highly enough, which I’m sure we do, then hopefully we can tempt him to stay with an improved financial offer on our part. I’m sure it’s not as simple as that , I’m just thinking as a fan who’d love him to stay.

Even in L1 the likes of Luton, Oxford, Leicester or Huddersfield could blow our wage structure out of the water couldn’t they?

I dearly hope he stays but I second that I wouldn’t begrudge him if he went.

He's 27 years old and not earnt fortunes, Grant mentioned that he joined us on a modest wage. Maximizing his earning potential must be a pretty high priority for him.

Maxwells sister said in January that Middlesbrough were putting a 2 mill offer in. Not sure if someone had given her duff info just see where the leaks were coming from.

I feel most of us ‘feel closer’ as supporters to not only our captain but also the backroom staff & yes the owner since Grant came back to the club.

Some feel he has too much say or influence in the club.

I feel he is building something ‘special’ here.

You only have to see the players with the youngsters as they get out of their cars to walk into the ground on match days. They ALL have ‘genuine’ time for everyone.

Autographs, selfies, handshakes & the same goes for Grant & Cliff too.

Their demeanour & ‘genuine affection’ for the club come across time & time again in their interviews

Owen, Luke, Billy, Jamie Sterry & yes those players like Ben Close who have left the fold now I can only genuinely think of Copps in times past who have touched the fan base so deeply.

And I can only put that down to one thing, one man.

We’re in good hands.

Things are definitely a lot better on the field than they have been for several years and there is both stability and progress.

We’ve clearly gone forward massively from where we were during the pandemic but while on the field we have improved hugely, the club is still stuck losing around £3m a year which Terry covers each and every year. There is no progress here. If we didn’t have Terry then everything would look a lot different.

That structural deficit of £3m annually isn’t going anywhere nor does there appear to be a plan to address this. Remember this is after all the benefit from Club Doncaster synergies and monetisation of the stadium for events. We still lose £3m each year.
