I thought Byrne did well. I don't think he's the answer for next year but he was certainly a good and steady signing.

That in itself tells us we need players to address how we want to play.

We need rid of Pearson imo. Shits himself every time the ball comes near him. As do I. Byrne would be an upgrade on him but we need a quality addition in there, the 4 we’ve got contracted for next season aren’t taking us further up this league are they?

Pearson was our best defender second half of the season.

McCann changed how we played (awful football) which suited Pearson the clogger better. Let’s not kid ourselves about his signing. He’s been largely horrific and the intention going forward certainly isn’t to play that turgid “hoof it first” football that we played in a desperate spell to climb out of relegation danger.

Senior is the correct answer btw.

Yes I meant Pearson was the best centre back.

The official rovers Instagram story has a picture of a hook (pirate hook type) and the eyes emoji.

Given Grant talked about a new striker I’m assuming it’s a clue? Only striker that came to mind for me was Andy Cook, also fits the experience and goals clue, but I could be way off.

Not sure we cross the ball enough for him so if it is that’d have to change.
Got agree with that

Regarding a new striker, Matt Rush is worth a punt, he’s young and hungry. Now Boreham Wood stayed down a FL club will be after him.

Been a low bar though really.

Last few games was more impressed with Byrne and Grehan that played next to him.

The issue with Pearson that he will be able to get stuck in etc and then has a Pearson moment where he has a complete brain fart and a goal gets conceded (Lincoln first goal for example).

McGrath played better when he had Byrne next to him, Pearson is too much chaos.

Faulkner is better than all them and at the club next season.
Flint as a defensive mid fielder gives us other options of how our midfield is made up also at the club next season.
Both have to grasp the metal in preseason and are well capable of doing so, and will set higher standards than what we have both physically and pace wise and both fitness fanatics and athletes and big strong lads who will set new standards in training.
Interesting times where some already at the club are going to have to respond to a challenge they have not had here before, two young players with football ability and athletes and interesting to see how it pans out.
As an area of the team with selection options I think we, if we sign Byrne or another experienced defender we will be well covered at a better level than we have been for a long time in the central defence area with the option of loaning a couple out when the shake out settles down.

On subject my striker choices assuming we had the finaces would be Mickey Mellon or Josh Stones, and have been for four or five years since the first time I saw them.

I’ve got a feeling this “experienced” striker who “can score goals” could be Will Keane. He’s just been released by Preston.

He has a promotion at this level with Wigan which McCann says he likes on a CV.

Good goal scoring pedigree but is also renowned for his ability to bring others in to play - which McCann likes from a centre forward!

May have something there..... He is Irish to boot.  Didn't realise that he had been released and provided he is fit and well, he may be a fit.

Would be happy with that, I think it would be a decent signing.

Not a fan of signing regressive players at 33 years old. Hes actually ok at retaining possession and likely to produce around 0.3x xG per 90, which is ok. Giving him a 2 year deal would be horrific though.

I think we will announce a signing today and they could very well be that exact age profile, Gaz.

We shall see.

Edit: Scrap that, I see Ricky Charlesworth has posted about him now

Yeah, I like the Ayinde signing as mentioned in the other post. Can see the value in that one.

I like loads of players!

Take note - it wouldn’t just be a questionable signing, it would be “horrific”.

Personally I think it would be a good signing given where we are and what we have.

Opinions differ but dont think horrific is a step too far.

Huddersfield’s appointment of Martin Drury as manager is not ‘surprising’ or ‘questionable’.

It is “horrific”.

We spoke to Huddersfield/May about a loan move this summer. Whether it went any further than that I don’t know, one for later in window if it were to proceed given it’s a loan surely?

Think we will sign a defender next week which considering the numbers already at the club will surely be the defence complete. Imagine the profile will be in keeping with the other defender we have signed so far this summer.

Would rather spread the quality around the signings rather than making May the marquee one. I just don’t think he’d work in this team.

He’d work as a wide forward but I doubt we’d get him as that with how our squad looks now.

Until Huddersfield played him next to a big striker this season he was very poor.

Could May really play as a McCann no9? Not suited imo unless Grant changes his style. Which in fairness I’d be in favour of I think his 433 got a bit stale last season so 2 strikers could help freshen it up

Yes. And Neill Byrne has signed.

I agree with this, not sure he will work for us as the 9 and even just a contribution if his wages not full, he would still represent a big cost. Not for me. Hopefully we’re smart enough to have picked out a quality, affordable one on a permanent deal and then probably a younger loanee to compete with them.

What about playing as a 10 in the role Harrison Biggins played when we were the perfect machine at the end of 23/24? In McCann’s team, that position requires you have 3 lungs, a willingness to harass and an eye for goal. I’d say May ticks all those boxes.

And if it’s a loan maybe there’s a deal to be had?
