3 years in ‘the wilderness’ (no thanks to the EFL) & you’re back in Lg2 proper.

No disrespect to Boreham Wood but Rochdale are a ‘proper lower division side’ from my era who Rovers sides over the years have had ‘to & from battles’ with.

Welcome back ‘Dale’.

Remember Paul Malcolm (I think) saving all three of a thrice taken penalty there?!

Blimey, what a dramatic way to do it.

Equalised in the 97th minute to force extra time, then won it on penalties. They were seconds away from facing another season in the National League despite finishing the season 16 points clear of Boreham Wood. What a sickener that would have been.

Welcome back Rochdale, you deserved it.

Yes, really pleased they’re back. Always enyoed my visits to Spotland. A proper lower league team.
Boreham Wood is fairly close to London, they took 6 thou to Wembley. Rochdale nearly doubled that.

Justice sometimes is served, for all the points Rochdale and York gathered this season they both deserved promotion.

Remember a great away game at Rochdale, think it was 03-04 Mark Albrighton last minute equaliser. Great atmosphere, more of us than home fans, or so it seemed!

Tuesday 30 March 2004, ended 1-1 courtesy of that 90th minute Albrighton goal.

Neil Redfearn was playing for them, aged 39.

Lovely little fish & chip shop opposite the away entrance as well, although last time we played them away our bus got a brick through one of the windows by a young local scrote!
