His contract at Hull runs through till June 2027 so another loan contract could be the deal of course .

Think he signed to 2028 so if we go for him permenant it will be a fee. Hull going up might help us? Maybe they want to free up some squad space?

If Hull don’t want/need him any more, they don’t HAVE to charge a fee do they? They would save money by not having to meet an unnecessary expense.

Transfers are a business transaction, being the pirchase/sale of an assett with a listed value. I believe they would have to charge a fee that was a reasonable chunk of his assett value, or a deal that works to that value with add ons or % of future sale.

From my limited understanding its linked to money laundering and tax laws.

Footballers do have an asset value but it’s based on their cost and amortisation to date on their contract. Anyone who has come through the youth system doesn’t have an asset value which is why you see so many cheap sales for homegrown talent in the PL - any proceeds are pure profit given their net book value is nil.

Agreed. Any transfer fee is negotiable. If it’s more than the player’s amortised value it’s profit; if it’s less or zero it’s a loss. The transfer fee is not tied to the amortised value but rather the market value. The selling club might not get a fee in which case the latter figure would be 0 and a loss for the selling club. If in this instance, Hull had to hold out for TLT’s amortised value it would be a toll on their wages bill with no benefit. If they release him they save on his wages at least would they not?

Absolutely, when I studied, Messi was always the example of an intangible asset worth 0 on the balance sheet.

One main factor is that Timmy wants to come to us.

Has he said that Ian?

Yes

The rumour at the time, Graing, was that most of it went into Hubert Bates's pocket.

That view was probably endorsed by the fact that Harry's departure was soon followed by 2 successive relegations.

We also lost Teasdale and King Alick in short time three great players and the heartbeat of a decent side.
It was all downhill for quite a while with bates a poor leader until Mr Wilson came along, a great person in our history who the club owe a lot to.

Old timers will remember that we bought 2 goalkeepers from Sheffield clubs to “replace” Harry. They were Ted Burgin from United (who was an England B International I think) and MacIntosh for Wednesday, neither of which were much good. However, over  the years of me following Rovers we have been generally well served in that position - certainly until recent times.

Hubert Bates was probably the second worst Chairman in my lifetime. One of my mates - another fan - was his (very embarrassed) nephew!

Burgin only played 5 games for us and then went to Leeds United playing 58 games for them in the second division while we plunged to the fourth division. Then joined Rochdale playing over two hundred games for them and ended a career with over 500 league and cup appearances, shows what happens when a manager fancies someone who was completely shot.
  McIntosh was horrendous.

I thought Burgin wasn't too bad. He dislocated his shoulder, which is why we brought in McIntosh, who was terrible.

I was on Popsice watching Rovers v Leeds United, featuring  our Harry Gregg and our best Division 2 side v Leeds United and their great John Charles .Charles took a free kick arrowing for the top corner when Gregg  leaped like a leopard to tip it over . A single moment of Harry Gregg’s exceptional ability is captured in my mind’s eye forever.

Harry Gregg used to own the Windsor Hotel in Portstewart , ex Rovers loanee Patrick Kelly is from Portstewart and his family run a pub/bar there.

Yes, Brian, and not long after losing those 3 great players, Peter Doherty fell out with Bates and buggered off to Bristol City, taking our prolific striker, Bert Tindill, with him.

So that was 4 great players and a great manager we lost. No bloody wonder we had those 2 relegations.
