I'd give Head of Steam a wide berth, not for any particular reason other than I'm not a big fan. Union Rooms is a Wetherspoons and fairly bog standard and cheap in that respect. Was trouble outside there when Sunderland visited, but that's Sunderland. Long bar worth a visit as that's where Michael Caine has his first pint in 'Get Carter.'The area to the left as you leave central station, around The Center for Life is the Pink Triangle- but if that's what you fancy. The Vault has a top pre match atmosphere, it's where the Geordie Dancer performs, but it is very much a home pub. But,in all honesty, and I've been up here 15 years, you can't go far wrong wherever you end up.
Will they let kids in anywhere Jon???
