A little concerned

Don't mean to be the grumpy, negative one. Is anyone else somewhat concerned about next season if we lose sharp? Most of our goals at the moment are coming from loan players.

My genuine belief is, it is SOD that makes everything tick ...if he went it could collapse like a \"pack of cards\" as he would probably take most of the players with him!
Sharp is merely the benefactor of exceptional coaching from the managerial team!

I'm more concerned about SOD leaving durnig the summer as he has a rolling contract. Cant this be made a permanent one to ease the discomfort?  I was sayiong to my dad with Sharp and possibly JET on a season loan next year we woudl be a sure bet for top 6. Problem is, if our board and keep it all together through a long summer.

A rolling contract is a permanent contract isn't it? Doesn't it just mean that he always has 3 years left on his contract as it automatically extends itself?

My understanding is that it automatically extends, but isn't it to help the club more? not tying the gaffer down to a big contract in case its time to say good bye to avoid a big payout.  I maybe wrong.

I just hope that the club can keep SOD and Co. I wont be able to get my season ticket till after the early bird, so JR's numbers maynot add up enough to push forward how he wishes, if a lot of other people are in the same boat as me.

Yep, he's on a permanent 3 year deal. Made Burnley go for Brian Laws so can't be a bad thing.

This time last year it was all, what would we do without Wellens, Mills and Stock? Well we lost the first two and the third has hardly played this season. If Billy does go elsewhere (and you would expect a lower table Premiership club to want to take a punt on a 20 goal Championship player) then there will be a queue of other failed strikers looking to get their careers back on track at Rovers...Michael Owen anyone!!

I was under the impression it was made an improved, 4 year rolling deal last summer.

Basically, what it means is that he always has 4 years on his contract, today, tomorrow, next month, whenever.  If a club come in for him then they have to pay up his contract (at the very least) + compensation, so it will cost them an arm and a leg, as Burnley found out so went for their second (considerably cheaper) choice.  Of course the flip-side is that the club potentially owe SOD 4 years wages if we ever wanted to get rid of him, however that is far less of a concern.

i think there are plenty of quality players to be had out there from teams that will be goin down this season and teams that fail to make it up aswell there the players what should be looked at there would have been no doubt if we went down how many players would we lose, we need to see other clubs players in this light and try to pinch them

Agree with Wilts here. I was worried about this season without Wellens and Mills (and as it turned out Stock more or less as well)

As long as JR/SOD/ROK are all here next year I think we will be OK

My opinion for what it's worth:

For central defence we have Martis, O'Connor, Hird, Lockwood and Webster to come back. Shackell or Ward might add some quality but I don't think we would struggle without. I am slightly more concerned longer term that Robbo and Chambers are both the wrong side of 30, but they have both been class this year meaning we have't missed JOC at RB when he plays in the centre

JET is great but we have Woods and Stock to come back so midfield not too bad either

Billy would be the big loss, and with Heffs seemingly gone there is a real hole which needs filling. Hayter is OK and it will be interesting to see how Waide progresses and there is always the longshot of Brooker's fitness, but the hole is still there. IMHO our chances of keeping Billy are small. The best chance might be if he has a bad start under a new manager at Bramall Lane

Might Wenger have another striking starlet?

Of course I am assuming we don't have to sell say JOC, Stock and Woods to balance the books.
