Wrong again as that statement isn't saying i know better than you, what it says is the facts and our managers selection speak volumes against your opinions.  Try and twist this one as well VJ as you try to wiggle out of your hole.

We're going round in circles.

There are no facts involved. Let's face it. SOD obviously sees Wilson in the same light as you, I see him differently. Nobody is wrong, it just so happens that I disagree with you (and our manager) on whether Wilson is good enough for this league. Just because I disagree with the manager doesn't mean I am wrong, as people have different views in football, hence the whole spectrum of different styles of football and styles of management that we see throughout football - everybody has a different view on certain aspects of the game, without there being a recognised right or wrong way.

And what are you talking about 'wiggle out of my hole'? For a start, I am not in a 'hole' just because I disagree with you, and also, it is you who has turned this into a petty argument, not me, but lets face it, nobody is 'in a hole' and that is why this debate is just going round in circles.

And thank Christ for that. If its a toss up between you and hime for a view on football and a footballer's worth I think I know who's opinion I'd seek first, and who's opinion I'd seek last. Incidently... its SOD first, and SOD last

We might aswell pack it in having a forum now then, seen as though everyone's opinions are worthless unless they are manager of a professional football team.

not a big fan of Wilson but up to the mistake I thought he was having a decent game.
getting fed up with where i sit - a small faction blame wilson for everything - if the pies ran out at half time it would be wilsons fault.
come on lads he wears the red and white hoops get behind the team as a whole lets not belittle ourselves and pick on one part of the team.

Lets look at the midfield, where is Stock injured and has been for three quarters of the season, he has been missed. Gillett could not afford him, he played well when here. So we play Wilson who has good and bad games like all the others in midfield, easy target for supporters to pick on. If the club could afford better he would not be in the side. Was he worst than Butt or Guthrie no. Was he worst than the ineffective Woods, note playing with an injury and it shows, or the one trick pony Shiels no. These midfield players have got us were we are, individually they are punching above their weight but most of the time has a unit they play well. We missed the guile of Copps last night, only when he plays at his best. Our most consistent midfield player lately is Oster yet he can play the odd bad pass. These are the players we have, the board cannot afford better. Lets hope they have more good games than bad. Will we see Stock again, at his best, this season I doubt it. So its either Wilson or Hird for that role and Wilson is the better player.

Oster MOM, just above Wilson and Chambers for me. Not sure what the beef is with Wilson all the time. His sloppy pass cost us, but you could then go on to say so did Sharp's miss in the 1st half. It's a team game in which individual errors cost you. Unfortunately it was Wilson tonight, but he was far from our worst player.

Great post, particularly the bit about performing as a unit. We've seen in recent seasons its all about balance like when Spicer was introduced last year he gave us a lift (ironically at the expense of Wilson). For all their good players, I don't think Newcastle's midfield showed any of the cohesion that ours does. They just alternate between focussing on Routledge and Guitierrez (sp?). We need better than Wilson to progress, but he's not the only one we can apply that to. Until then he's performing well in a decent midfield and without looking I 'd say we have a healthy pts/game ratio when he plays (this season alone obviously!).

Agreed, not a Wilson fan but he wasn't the only one who was poor. Now lets quit the bickering and hope we can regroup to batter them dingles Saturday! :D

So you are saying that people criticise Wilson for the sake of it? Nonsense.

It's a typical pro-Wilson view to make out that people pick on him for the fun of doing it. Not the case. I just genuinely don't think that he is good enough, based on the evidence of watching the guy play for Rovers for the past 3 and a half years. Mind you, it is quite an easy way of defending him isn't it; making out that everybody picks on him for the sake of it rather than actually providing an argument as to why he IS good enough to play in a Championship midfield.

I agree with Viking James. He's not good enough, he's all we've got at the moment but come the summer, while we're sipping back a cold one, watching England limp to the 1/4 finals of the World Cup SO'D will be swooping for the next Richie Wellens.

Anyone who can suggest that John Buckley doesn't amount to anything has already lost the debate. The ignorance that that comment displays is astounding. Rather undermines the rest of his points. As does the selective vision actually as well. Picking on one player without mentioning the weaknesses of others is simply personal and vindictive.

And that, my friends, is QED for that particular poster.

Cheers

Bob on...errr...Bob.

I remember the first time I clapped eyes on Buckley. Pre-season friendly at BV against Chelsea. He was up against Doug Rougvie at left back - just signed from Aberdeen after they'd won the Cup Winners Cup and he looked like there'd been a pure blood line of babby eating, nun-raping Vikings in his family since about 867. A proper throw back to the days when left backs had fewer teeth than brain cells and both could be counted on the fingers of one hypothermic mountaineer. Thighs like my chest and a chest big enough for 15 men to go yo-ho-ho on.

Buckley made him look a right tit.

Buckley had tricks in his locker that were unheard of in them days. There was one moment down by the Rosso End when he switched the ball from foot to foot like they were pinball flippers. Rougvie didn't have a clue if he was going inside or outside him, so he dived straight through the middle and was left on his arse grunting and scratching his Norse/Scots stubble as our elegant John waltzed past him and into the box.

'Course the likes of Coppinger do that in their sleep these days, but back in them Miners' Strike days, that were a proper flash of flashness in Donny.

Didn't visit the forum yesterday but just knew there'd be a \"Wilson\" thread. I was absolutely gutted that it was his pass that lead to the goal. My husband came to the game but didn't sit near me. He barely knows one player from another and he picked Wilson out as one of our better players. He supports Newcastle and he agrees they they got the rub of the green from the officials. I agree he's not our best player but he comes in for so much stick people feel the need to stick up for him.

When was that matey? My first game was a pre-season match at BV against Chelsea, my mate (at the time was mascot) and we took an early lead before losing 4-2 (I think but could be very wrong). I think the next game was a friendly V Wolves, I remember almost sh!tting mesen running back home to Intake over the Fire Station Field seemingly being chased by thousand of Chelsea thugs - undeniably untrue now looking back, but was scary as a 5-8 year old!
