Parachute payment extension
« on April 15, 2010, 06:44:30 pm by DonnyBazR0ver »
Good or bad for the game.

The way I see it, it's more than just increasing the revenue for relegated clubs, it's underpinning the payment of over-inflated wages for over rated players for longer.

Plus, as we've seen from other ex-big clubs, they are willing to pay top dollar for average players, so these relegated teams will hoover up any decent talent from the lower leagues.

Bad for the game as it extends the uneven playing field.

It's ridiculous.

I thought the powers that be were supposed to be making noises about making competition fairer. The game will suffer eventually, because nobody wants to watch a game where the outcome is a forgone conclusion.

I heard that the Football League will be voting on this in June. I assume that means clubs get to cast their vote equally? Why would a Championship, DIv 1, Div 2 club agree to this rubbish?

All those with Sky installed at home, I suggest you get rid as you are funding this turkey. Most games are free on t'interweb anyway.

There's talk of increasing the payments to the Championship, L1 and L2 clubs as part of the same motion - so it could be worth £500k to each of the clubs in L2, a slightly larger amount to L1 clubs and aprox £1m to the remaining championship clubs.

This in effect sweetens the bulk of the L1 & L2 clubs in the hope that they will back it.

Great. So the smaller clubs trouser a few 000'k more, meanwhile that average strikers wages (and agents fees) will also go up from 1k a week to 3k a week as the result of more money flowing in.

All this cash will end up in the players and agents pockets and the fees they charge will inflate as a result.

Result: the gap between rich and poor widens, with more clubs facing the choice of financial suicide to compete, or being also rans.
This being competitive sport, the majority will plump for the former, leading to more clubs going to the wall and fans being screwed for more and more money.

And all this, just so a 79 year old Australian can funnel a few more squllion quid into a bank account that he will never end up spending anyway.

I've thought for years now that that man is one of the three most evil beings on this planet. Nothing I have seen has ever suggested I am wrong. This idea certainly is wrong. It might be a PL/FL idea, but it all stems from footballs' absolute dependence on Sky tv money and the idea of entrenching more marketable clubs in the right marketing niches. It's got sod all to do with football. It never did have.

It's getting to a point where I think we fans should go on strike until the knobs who are lining their own pockets, allow the game to be brought back to the masses.

We need a day of action to protest about all that is bad about the game.

Let's all, across all leagues boycott the opening day of next season and spread the word. We're fed up of being taken for mugs !!

The Coventry chairman was on the radio promoting the scheme.  Obviously he's looking ahead to their parachute payments next season! ;-)
