Rovers flag
« on May 09, 2010, 12:29:25 pm by dickos1 »
Me and a couple of other rovers fans are off to south Africa for the
England Slovenia game! We were wondering if anyone had a rovers
flag we could borrow! Or if anyone knew how we got one made
we obviously don't want a massive one! Just one big enough to
get the mighty drfc on tv
cheers

Don't get me wrong I'd love to see our flag on TV.

But ....

1) Don't even know who wants to Borrow it
2) Not down to me as it's not mine, its all the lads who helped pay for it at The Ridgewood in Edenthorpe, I'm only the bearer as I go away all the time.

I will Poll and see, If it gets lost though, be £230.

Ask for a deposit for the flag Hanksie. If it gets lost/stolen etc, you keep the money and put it towards a replacement.

From my experience there's a lot more to getting your flag on telly than just turning up and putting it behind the goals. For starters the ground advertising at WC games is very tightly controlled, and then you will be competing with England fans who have been doing this for years. Then you will have the security issues with making sure you get it back after the game, sounds easy but its not! I had the occasion when a fellow DRFC supporter tried to nick my flag after the game between Spain and England in Madrid! Good luck!

Hi, we dont mind paying a deposit or indeed paying for the replacement if needed. Some of you may know me, Lee Dixon.
We are in our thirties now unfortunately, so we do now have a tad of responsibilty amongst us.
Would be good but obviously we fully understand if the answer is NO.

cheers

As Silent says, the job can be alot more trouble than its worth. Having carried a flag all over the world for many years I would liken it to looking after a baby at a game. We have had one nicked in Portugal England v France, ground stewards nicked one in Lisbon can't remember the game, don't forget England flags are real trophies to the Johnny foreigner, the Yanks in Chicagco tried but shat themselves when approached, and a fellow Rovers fan in Madrid whose exscuse was \" I thought it was Andy Lineys and I was taking it for him\", I mean did you ever see Andys flag? Cheeky bugger!

You have to be in the ground very, very, very, early to get a decent spot. Like first thing in the morning, if they will let you in. You then spend all day wondering if somebody will nick it or take it down. Then you realise it aint nowhere near where you are sitting and you spend all match watching it in case it just vanishes. Ten minutes from time you set off to get it back, if you can get access. If not then you have to wait until the game ends and the ground clears to argue with the stewards and do your best to explain in foreign broken language why you need to get to another part of the ground.

If you don't bother with the early start and take the chance of just turning up with the flag with 1/2 an hour to kick off. Enjoy the long delay while they search you thoroughly and discuss wether the flag is of insulting nature although they don't and can't understand the word DONCASTER. Then they introduce rules at a whim which mean that flags above a certain size are not allowed in the ground. This is then deposited and you have to collect it at the end of the game...again good luck with that one.

After all that, you are successful and you get your flag back, it may have a few beer stains and fag burns in it, but it's now safe back in your hands, the same flag you carried around all day from pub to pub and managed not to leave it in one. You now have the job of carrying it around with you again for the rest of the evening from pub to pub and manage not to leave it behind again......all that, all that for, yes youv'e guessed, not one picture in the papers and the cameras never went anywhere near it. Ours was the opening coverage for the BBC when Northern Ireland played England, the cameras focused on it for, what seemed like minutes. Big England flag with DONCASTER on it. Do you remember?..........thought not!

And all the above tasks while being pissed...................... :)
