Burnley have today launched an audacious bid to sign every striker in the Championship. The fee (believed to be in the region of £8.7m) has been accepted by Greg Clarke, Chairman of the Football League, on behalf of all of Burnley's Championship rivals. However, lengthy negotiations lay ahead before a deal can be sealed.

Privately, club insiders were amazed and delighted that the Clarets' cheeky bid was accepted. Backroom negotiations are now well under way to finalize the deal.

Firstly, all remaining Championship clubs would have to agree to adopt a 5-5-0 formation for the duration of the season. Crystal Palace and Portsmouth must waive their fee in lieu of arrears and Roy Keane's Ipswich are making frantic last-ditch efforts to scupper the deal because they have Connor Wickham.

Nobody was available for comment last night but Turf moor catering staff are said to be preparing themselves for the arrival of Jon Parkin.
