Your friend \"Paul Green\"
« on June 20, 2010, 09:56:56 am by en aitch »
I don't go looking on the BBC Website much, but I saw this ... allegedly from the mouth of Paul Green

\"Our home form has carried us through this season and has been just as good as sides in the top six, so we know where we need to improve.\"

Green added: \"It is all about consistency, we have let ourselves down against the 'not-so-big' teams like Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Blackpool.

So Derby (14th) have let themselves down against \"little\" Blackpool (promoted) and Doncaster (12th).

He's moved on .... can our fans stop being orgasmic over the t**t when 19th October arrives, please?

I get tired of people who would cheer Green but boo Wilson (it doesn't need to be Green and Wilson, but it is just an example - ie NOT DRFC players vs DRFC players) - Green is happy to tell people that they (Derby) should be beating teams like Doncaster & Blackpool, so (aside from the fact that Blackpool have moved on) he believes that Doncaster should be a soft touch for a big club like Derby.

People that have left (for whatever reason) merit no more respect than any other non-DRFC player, and that includes Billy the Blade unless he opts to sign for us.

I don't hate Green (or Kevin McIntyre) or Wellens / Mills / Guy & Heffs, they are just players for other clubs .... it is just tiresome when people spend more time worrying about ex-players than they do about our own.

Good intelligent comment! How can you stand being so bright?

I can see where he is coming from, as it is a fact that we are a smaller club than Derby. But at the same time it is a little bit disappointing that he looks down on us like that after we built his career.

So what is he saying? Donny is a small club....agreed we are only second to Scun is this league so not really seeing your point at all - he is not be disrpectful just keeping to the facts.

I for one are delighted how Paul has developed and was over the moon when he secured he international caps and his goal!

Tell you what beggars belief, you coming on this forum with comments that are un-substantiated about one of our most loyal and long serving players of our recent history!

Your entitled to voice your opinion on the player and if you don't want to acknowledge his contribution to our club thats up to you  but don't try and influence others with meaningless diatribe!

In short, talk shite, don't be surprised when you get some back! I won't do the symbols, I'll leave those to the symbol minded!

Hey. If you dont want people to talk about him, don't start a thread about him eh?

As for his comments, I see nothing wrong with them, we are a small Club in this division - he doesnt say we are a bad Club, and given resources etc, Derby, in their eyes, should be beating us.

Unsubstantiated - I don't think so!

I don't mind people disagreeing with me - but why resort to name calling?

The fun in seeing people agree the alleged words because they are from the mouth of the legendary Paul Green is good though - imagine if Kevin McIntyre had said them!

As for the rest - \"why start a thread about him\" - Get real - why start any thread in the closed season? Perhaps I'm provoking something other than \"signings\" talk. It's good that you're all happy to agree with him - after all he did choose to move away!

I agree with you anyway, i like Greeny but hes moved on. We have to move on cheer the lads that play in red & white hoops that will do for me.

But  i also hope Greeny does well especially in his international career & maybe get a move to the Premiership as he WAS  immence for us.

Greeny's right though. Comparatively speaking, us, Scunny, Blackpool... we are not so big compared to the likes of Derby, Leicester, Forest, Leeds.

But... f**k 'em all anyway. As long as we take points off them... Greeny can say what he likes.

TBH, I cant imagine Greeny saying that.  He's still great mates with Copps (in particular), and was going to do the end of season presentations for my U7s team before his international call up dragged him to Ireland that weekend.

Oh, and it was on the BBC website, which we have already established isnt the paragon of journalistic virtue it makes out to be.  Never knowingly right, remember...

People will draw their own conclusions regardless of what he said. Michael McIndoe has spoken in glowing terms about the club and the town since leaving but some people still choose to ignore that and slate him.

I don't really care if Green has said these things, it's hardly the worst thing in the world and he still deserves a welcoming reception (pre and post match) whenever he plays against us. In my opinion it's good to always show respect for important former players that have played a big part in our success.

Don't mean to be pedantic - then again, yes I do - but the title should read Your \"Friend\" Paul Green, as Paul Green is actually his name and should not be in quotations whereas it is in dispute, according to you, that he is a 'friend' of Rovers.

That said, I do agree that some fans cheer old heroes like Greeny and boo current players who are still contributing to the team - Wilson for example. I'll always be grateful for what Green did for the club and I wish he'd stayed on. However, it was his (or his agents) decision not to; so that was that. Wilson, on the other hand, is still here and he should be backed 100%.
