For ones with a certain taste for music or of a certain age, this radio station is getting better and better. Really quality music, new and old. None of this 'you've got to listen to me talking with all my muckers for 15mins' or 'Aren't I f**king great' b*llocks

Whilst driving to and from work, I switch this bad boy on (obviously mixed with local news/sport too), and they always seem to play a gem, that's been gone but not forgotten.

Last night, whilst travelling back from Domino's Pizza (2 x 11\" pizza's- half mighty meaty, half Texan barbecue, half veg-a-roma and the last half Full House(minus the pineappple...never ever on a pizza)), they played Department S 'Is Vic there'. Now the intro alone caused me to wind both windows down, turn it right up and sing my head off and slap the steering wheel repeatedly.

Top tip: If you are bored on a hot muggy day and have 3 minutes to kill driving home. Why not listen to an old claas song that get's you bopping and moving. Time will fly. I was home in 3 minutes.

If only I knew how to link youtube vids on here

\"Is Vic There?\" - just listened to it and it sounds terribly flat and tame.

Now if you were to drive through Donny (or anywhere) with this on loud, you'd get some attention:

Great vid as well.

Listening to music with my windows down...

... is something I do at this time of year and (given my electic tastes) gets me some more funny looks.

None more so back in the days when I was still doing a bit of reffing. I turned up one Sunday morning at the park to do a game and had this on the car stereo (with the bass turned up to 11, natch!). It was too good to turn off, so I turned it up, parked up and enjoyed all 8 mins 50 secs of it.

Players from several assembled teams were listening and were suitably taken aback when I eventually emerged from my car. Shall I say that I think they were expecting that my skin would be of a rather darker hue than it is!

Liked all the music on this thread and I'd listen with the windows down too!  Mind you, when I listen to some of my own music I'm struck with how atonal some of it was/is.

Funnily, one time after watching the lads play 5 a side, we were in the pub and got talking about music.  We got to discussing the Stone Roses and I said that I really liked them, but it took me awhile as some of their early stuff was sort of atonal.  To which one of the lads replied, my uncle used to play for them!!!  Oh dear! Felt so bad I got one of their 'best of' albums -breaking one of my own rules, mind.

Heard this Fleetwood Mac recently and was reminded how much I liked this more atonal version.

And somewhat related, sometimes when the Rovers lose, I think of this song, which we used to drunkily sing after our softball team lost. I really like some of the old spirituals...

When the Rovers win, another atonal favorite...

The first (self titled) Stone Roses album is a work of art and one of the greatest albums ever made in my opinion. Everything about it is near perfect, from the sound, the mood and the tunes themselves to the track sequencing. I think I might dig it out now to get me in the mood for some summer evening drinking.

I did actually come full circle on them in time, particularly  as y'all on here liked them so much... so I really tried to listen to them quite a lot. And happy to say now they're on my gym 'mix'... :)

Dr Alimuntado and the Rebels - Born for a Purpose/Reason for Living

I got this on an original EP. 'What's an EP?' I bet half this board are now wondering. Now, wheer's me spliff den?

Cheers

Ahh yes.

I was taking my finals at University that year. Joined the committee of the university record (vinyl that is, kids) library partly through love of music, mainly cos I fancied the arse off the lass who ran the library. She looked like that cyclist, Victoria Pendleton, but with better tits.

The 4 of us on the committee could choose 2 albums each every month, that we would then buy with the library funds; then we got first dabs on them. April 1989, I chose The Stone Roses, on the back of the reviews I'd read about them in the Melody Maker.

I will remember till my dying day the first 30 seconds after the needle hit the groove. I was sat going through some old exam papers. Didn't have any great expectations of the album - the same journalist who had been praising them had also been hyping up Miaow, The Wolfgang Press and A Certain Ratio over the previous couple of years. But I thought it might be decent background music.

By the end of the intro to I Wanna Be Adored, the pen was on the desk and the revision had been forgotten. By the end of She Bangs the Drums, I knew that this was something very special. By the end of I am the Resurrection, the bar of pop/rock music had been raised by several yards.

Timing couldn't have been better. Three or four weeks later, I got to see them at Stratford on Avon Civic Centre, with a couple of hundred other people who knew that some tectonic shift was happening. That was by a hundred miles the best gig I have ever been to, or could ever hope to go to. Seeing the best band in the world in a space the size of a decent sized American front room.

Never got in yon lasses knickers mind.

Bet I don't Moylesy.

As for The Stone Roses, if I had to take a certain number of songs on a Desert Island, one would be 'Love Spreads'. That's the greatest compliment I could give them. What a fantastic song

It was a great loss to the British music industry when the Roses split. I remember it was the same day Black Grape were in town playing at the Dome, and it put a massive cloud over the whole evening for me.

Every time I pass some kid in a souped up Corsa/Nova/Saxo etc they have the cheek to have euro disco shitey thing a la scooter or really bad RnB etc playing really loud.  I often moan to our lass \"why o why cant they have something decent on\".

Like a juvenile I often put something on like the Super Furries \" Man Dont Give a F''k\" very loud when I pull up to the side of  these \"Kens\"

Hey I am 35 going on 13 :)

Of course.  It's tongue in cheek.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Pah. Wimps. What you need is me driving past your houses a few times every hour with Crass on full blast.
