Good News- Oster signs 2 year deal
« on June 29, 2010, 03:09:33 pm by Fanatical Rover »
Doncaster Rovers Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder John Oster on a two-year deal.

31 year-old Oster proved a powerhouse in the Rovers' midfield last season as Rovers played some of the best, fearless football in The Championship.

He scored his first goal for Rovers at Peterborough, as the side came from behind to win 2-1 and continued to work tirelessly until missing the last two games of the season through injury.

One more piece of Sean O'Driscoll's jigsaw has fallen into place, with the players returning next Monday to training ahead of the first pre-season game against Askern Villa on Wednesday 7th July.

Oster spent last season at the Keepmoat Stadium, initially signing a six-month contract which was extended to the end of the season.

A former Wales international, Oster made 13 appearances for his country between 1997 and 2004.

The midfielder started his career at Grimsby Town, before moving to Goodison Park to join Everton in a £1.5 million deal in 1997. After two years on Merseyside, Oster made the switch to Sunderland.

During six years at the Stadium of Light, the cultured midfielder spent spells on loan to Barnsley and Leeds United, as well as making a return to Blundell Park.

In 2005 Oster joined Burnley, making five appearances for the Clarets before switching to Reading.

Oster enjoyed three fruitful years with Reading, turning out for Steve Coppell's side in the Premier League. After making 76 appearances for the Royals, Oster moved to Crystal Palace, scoring three times in 31 appearances before being released by Neil Warnock at the end of the term.

A new batch of biros has arrived at the club shop but get there quickly as stock is limited.

Great news at last, 1 out of the 3 I've been waiting for. Hope he has waited to hear what Billy is doing before he put pen (Pen, what pen?) to paper. You never know!!.

Great news. Oster is one of the key players that our team should be built around and I didn't see many better players than him at any Championship clubs last season.

We obviously still have a very big need for a goalscorer (and other striking options) and a central defender, but this is brilliant news in the meantime.

Apparently all the old Vandanel pens were inadvertently sent to South Africa.  These are the new Nike pens.

Brilliant news, I was having serious doubts he would resign for us. Massive boost for the club.

So far then our great midfield is intact.

We await to see if we can get Stocky and Woodsy back to regular first team football. I'd like to see Jordan Mutch back here as a very able and promising centre midfielder.
