Not that I believe the website but this would be good news with the sell on clause we got on the transfer

**West Ham News**

The Hammers are considering a bid for Reading centre back Matthew Mills.

According to http://www.doncaster.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=164606 it's 20%

20% of 3 million would be a very nice 600,000.  By the way, I just picked the sale fee out of thin air.

I have no idea how these actually work, but to me, the sell on fee, surely, can only apply to the amount Reading receive that is above what they paid? They'd be mad to agree to any other sort of sell on clause. Imagine, they sell him for 20 grand 'cos he's a crock and yet have to give us 20% of that? Not very likely I suggest. So, my guess would be 20% of the difference between £1M and £3M (say). So that'd be £400K. Wouldn't walk past it in the street though....

No, it looks like the sell-on clause % goes on the full fee paid.

It certainly did in this example

I'm sure all deals are different though.

Some more gossip:

West Ham / Reading News

A move for Reading centre back Matthew Mills is apparently under discussion by West Ham, with a bid of around £3.5m being considered.

Some members of the Hammers board are known to be big admirers of Mills and would be interested in an approach if the player is open to a move to the East London outfit.

That would give us 700k from the sell on clause, which could fund a permanent move for a quality centre back!

A pity this wasn't finalised before Shackell went to the Dingles?

bugger shackell, with the fees being banded around here, we can sign Puyol!

If one man can make it happen, it's JR.

Of course ! The connection being Sullivan and Gold who were at Birmingham when they tried to get him.

Hope it goes through, we benefit financially and Reading are minus his services.
