No chance, we should try every reasonable way to keep Houghton...

Agreed we must get Houghton if it is at all possible. He will only improve and could be a big player for us over the next few years.
Yes we almost certainly need a striker in the summer as well.

That’s good news. What about Kiwomya?

McCullough needs shipping out at the end of the season.

Nowhere near good enough to justify keeping him on the books to play 10 games a season.

Completely disagree - he is a talented footballer with youth on his side.  Injuries apart, he's impressed for us.  I think he is better as a CM than CB, and we hopefully could sign Houghton, but I think there is room in the squad for both...

Does that mean his fitness record isn't appalling?

If he was massively better than anything else we've got when he played, fair enough.  But he's not, and he's always injured, full international or not.

Everyone knows DF likes a back 3.  I’d like to see this with JH and LM sat in front and either 3 behind 2 up top or 4 behind Kiwomya I’d hes as good and fast as everyone says.
JH and LM would be really strong in front of the defence

3 at the back is 5 but it often turns into 5 at the back, with luke and jordon playing just in front we would be way to defensive, no need for it in this division

Why is it a load of rubbish?

Houghton only came here on the back of Luke being injured

And what if we sign Houghton in June, release Luke, then Houghton gets a bad injury pre-season?  If we can afford to, we should keep both..

Surely that’s rubbish. Houghton is a better midfielder, simple as that. And that’s not intended as a slant on McCullough, he’s a good player, just that Houghton is better and was / is surely on our radar irrespective of LM.

That will have been two years ago by the summer, in which time Houghton has proven to be one of our most important and high quality players. McCullough would have to come back not only at the same level he was at before the first knee injury but he'd also have to improve a good deal which doesn't seem likely. Otherwise Houghton is clearly a better player, younger and fitter.

You said he is nowhere near good enough and that is what I was commenting on.

Using your reasoning we should get rid of Danny Andrew as well.

Does that mean his fitness record isn't appalling?

Let’s cut to the chase.  Unless we get in the playoffs or very close Houghton isn’t going to sign that’s why he hasn’t signed now. He’s keeping his options open whilst been paid well by Chelsea   I don’t blame him.  He’s more than capable of playing the top end of league 1 and the championship.

I think the possibility of us dropping to League 2 was more of a concern than how well we are doing in League 1, and may well have been something of a missing release clause in the personal terms that he wasn't prepared to accept... who knows.

I think he's one for the future in terms of Championship. Right now he's in the right league and if we get promoted in two or three seasons it'd be perfect all round if he were with us.

Back on topic, did anyone actually watch the game at Bradford to know how McCullough did?

Having listened to Ferguson’s latest interview, he clearly rates both LM and AK.
It appears that both of them are going to be available for first team duty in the next two or three weeks and in reality it will be as good as having two new signings.
I haven’t seen Kiwomya play so can’t pass comment on him but I do like McCullough, especially as a holding player.
The timing of their return to fitness has come along at the right time.

We have Shrewsbury and then Scunthorpe away coming up next. It is unlikely we will get any points from those games.
Fergie is hoping that McCullough will then be fully fit to start our home game against Bristol City on 27th Jan.  He is also hoping that Kiwomya will be fully fit to start our away game against Portsmouth on 3rd Feb.
They may be match fit but they can't be match sharp.
Talk of the playoffs is a bit optimistic but mid table would be as good as we can achieve.

Houghton is a Rovers Player in all but name only signing on fees from Chelsea and or loyalty bonuses etc are what’s behind the delay nothing else. He was happy to play in League 2 , Happy to play in League 1 and was happy that return and lives locally. What evidence is there to say he isn’t happy here ....NONE!!

We are hard to beat at the moment, so there is a good chance we can draw either or both these games.  We can, if all goes right on the day, win them too..

Unless you're Man City or us in 1998, football is predictably unpredictable..

Well I don’t usually make match predictions but I do fancy a draw tomorrow at Shrewsbury and I have a really good feeling about the Scunthorpe match. So it’s 4 points for me.
