Bit surprised Butler isn't captain but no massive shocks there.

Good to see Sims back.

Gomes the loose cannon who passing is not good enough not disciplined enough for that position.
Sooner had James there and Okenabirhe on left. Any way let’s see DM a shot it right.

Gomes had a great game there last season and I hope he gets back up to speed pronto.

Just looking for an improvement from Tuesday night. Anything after that is a bonus.

Gomes was also outstanding a the start of the season before he was injured.

The changes are probably about right - Bostock was miles off the pace, Robertson didn’t do much, Fej probably due a rest and after his goal Lokilo didn’t do a lot. I’d probably have kept Lokilo in on the left and had James in midfield rather than Gomes after his stinker on Tuesday but a chance of redemption for him.

I hope Bogle’s not been rushed in like Bostock was, though, and is actually fit to start.

Do you mean for Gomes or the team? Either way, an improvement from Tuesday is a very low bar, I’m hoping for much better personally.

Think we should have started this midfield tuesday night

Bright start so far including an early shot from Taylor but still some sloppiness - a short corner wasted and Joe Wright just passed very poorly straight into touch.

Isn’t one of the main reasons that John is in the team is to give us that extra height and physicality? Stood watching as Wyke got in front of him to get that header. Awful defending.

Seen both goals on Sky Sports.  In both cases, we have defenders trying to block their man rather than go for the ball.   In the first case from the corner it was James and the second it was John making no attempt to attack the ball.

Very difficult for him to make anything of it, it was behind him rather than ahead where he might have at least been able to stab at it. Particularly given Richards absolutely smashed it at him.

Im sorry but Im sick of his negative line ups now. When we win the ball back in our own half we only ever have 1 striker to aim for, Taylor and James are stood within 6 yards of each other. He has his players now and STILL we are setting up to stop other teams and yet here we are.....

It’s probably karma for the game at the Keepmoat where they totally dominated us and we stole a point. I said that night they were the best side I’d seen this season and I’ll stick to that, although Oxford played great football but had a soft centre.

Absolutely. Halliday has been beaten numerous times.  If you allow a cross stood up to the back post it's a 50-50 situation for the attacker.

Sunderland have a front three that could easily play in the league above.  It tells me defensively we should be concerned if some of them could step up.

Much reminds me of sod teams, played ok but opposition's quality has undone us.

The scoreline is not his fault and hes not the only one today but, what a lot of you and the manager see in Jon Taylor will forever baffle me. He is absolutely dire! Never offers anything ever. Clueless in possession, never looks to find space, runs into dead ends, when he gets it he loses it, never makes the right decision. To think he fobbed Rotherham off to play Championship football and he never got a club sums it up.

Who thinks Halliday, Butler, Wright & John are the best back 4 in the division? You wouldn’t find a single poster on here who wouldn’t have Anderson in our best back 4, and you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who would have John in there.

Agreed, it’s really poor. John Taylor seems to me a little like Sterling in that he never quite seems to strike a ball cleanly, so if he’s our best option then god knows how poor the rest are. To say we often have 4 centre halves in the team to attack set pieces it’s a really poor record.

Wright and Butler are doing ok. Unfortunately they have nobody on either side of them.

I think Wright was at fault for the first goal, similar to John for the second he was far too passive.

Not going to defend the indefensible but I just go back to our first corner. Not to put the ball into the box was criminal.

We actually got into some good positions but were woeful in the box. How Richards missed by that far even with his right foot was hard to believe. Taylor shooting boots missing.

Sunderland kept it simple. Quality balls in the box to an invisible 6' 4“ centre forward.

Some of our play has been better but OMG, schoolboy defending.

I posted earlier on in this thread that Taylor reminds me of Sterling in that he can’t strike a ball cleanly. Turns out he takes a penalty like him as well. I’d rather have had any other player take that...well, maybe not Cameron John.

The defence for the 4th goal was an utter disgrace. Surely at half time Moore tore into them about the space MacGeady was getting out wide and the space Wyke had in the box. And yet seconds after we’re gifted a way back into the game the exact same thing happened again. Pathetic and shameful.

Sunderland are probably the only team in the league who can put decent crosses in and have someone so consistent and strong in the air to put them away- our defence has been found out but fortunately they won’t have to put up with this every week (although championship would be a different matter).  There is no need to despair, we are competing ok in the rest of the pitch and hopefully our new recruits and returning players will only get stronger

We did deserve to lose, the defending was as poor as I have seen in 35 years - and just think of what I've seen in those times. We have lost are mojo and it isn't just losing Whiteman - we look devoid of confidence, hanging on from the first minute, unable to pass the ball.... FS. I need a time away from this to chill...every year they sucker me in.

I wouldn't mind if Sunderland were good, they had one decent player - with the same skill and aim every time - either put two players on him, or take him out.

Based on today the starting line up for Accrington should be in my opinion:

Balcombe
Halliday RB
Wright CH
Anderson (if available, if not Butler) CH
James LB
Bostock CDM
Sims LM
Richards CAM
Smith CM
Lokilo RM
Bogle CF

Not bad but surely Fej in ahead of Lokilo.

Maybe missed Anderson’s leadership.did not seem as though we had a designated penalty taker. Worst penalties I can remember seeing for a long time.very half hearted.but onwards and upwards we are still in a great position in the table.we can’t be that bad.

On reflection I don't believe we would have lost that game if Anderson had played. The team didnt play too badly but we just couldn't handle McGeady & Wyke. Big Tom would've had Wyke under control & he definitely wouldnt have had the space he was allowed. Anderson is so important to us and it has clearly shown over these past two games.

Based on today I would keep Lokilo in, I thought he caused them alot of problems when he came on.

It seems we’ve overlooked the fact we haven’t got a designated penalty taker, which in that case you have to give it to the best striker of the ball, both Taylor and Lokilo are not good strikers of the ball, awful display, awful decision making, needs sorting pronto, esprcially the balls coming into the box

The manager should have decided before the game who is the penalty taker.

How do we know he didn’t and they were the ones selected?

COYR

Precisely, we don’t.
Filo said we don’t have a designated penalty taker.

Bizarrely that's the best we've played with the ball in ages. Without the ball the worst we've played in years. Wright and Butler couldn't handle Wyke when he played for Bradford so I feared the worst before kick off and he didn't have McGeady landing balls on his head then.

I bet Fej was gutted sat on the bench and two penalties.  If we had scored our first penalty we wouldn't have conceded the 4th goal a minute later.
3-2 for a bit and they might have panicked.

You’ve got me doubting myself but I thunk it was already 4-1 before we got the first pen

You might be right Filo. I thought on the BBC site we missed a pen and they scored very quickly after but I might have got it wrong. At least I won't bother with the extended highlights to check.☹️

We scored on 53mins, they scored on 54mins, we got the pen on 57mins

Filo, that is the truth though isn’t it.
Why don’t you take kindly to people pointing out stuff you have said.
You seem to think it is ok when you decide to have a pop at my posts.

Chers Filo, I was checking on BBC at the time in between other jobs so was mistaken. That sure was a hectic few minutes though.

Because I never said we didn’t have a designated penalty taker, you are fond of using word play when it suits you, what i did say was It SEEMS we’ve overlooked the fact we haven’t got a designated penalty taker

The key word is SEEMS, that in the context of the post is me expressing an opinion, but true to form when someone challenges your post you go all defensive and blame some one else

That is ridiculous and you know it.
You were clearly having a go at Moore for not having designated penalty taker but in true political fashion you are twisting the words to suit your argument.
I simply pointed out that the manager should have decided before the game who the penalty taker would be.
I fail to see why you object to that.

You really dont like anyone to point out something that you have written might just be wrong.

Bring on the cavalry now.

No cavalry needed, I can argue my own points, you have a habit of twisting things and blaming some one else when one of your posts is pulled up

LoL.

Put the toys back in your pram.
It is you who got the tits on about me pulling you up on you suggesting we didn’t have a designated penalty taker.
Anyone can see that.
